My makeup preferences are getting all kinds of makeovers, and bronzer is something I’m becoming increasingly interested in. Prior to now, I just used whatever bronzing product I had on hand. But recently, I’ve often been searching for something specific from my bronzer, and my collection was lacking options. So I utilized Sephora’s VIB sale and grabbed a few bronzing options, including the new Cover FX Monochromatic Bronzer Duo in ‘Sunkissed Bronze*.’
A couple of posts ago, I mentioned how badly I wanted to add a glowy bronzer to my collection, and these launched at the perfect time (i.e.: when I was already dropping dollars at Sephora…). Cover FX is a brand I would like to be more familiar with, because I hear nothing but good things. And everything I’ve tried has been great. These bronzer duos are the first color launch from the brand. How did they work? That’s what we’re chatting about today. Let’s get started with my Cover FX bronzer duo review.
the basics
The Monochromatic Bronzer Duos* are the newest launch from Cover FX. They are richly-pigmented bronzer and blush palettes featuring a duo of monochromatic matte and shimmer shades for a multi-dimensional finish. They are also a permanent product, which is great news if you’re not in the market just yet.
The Monochromatic Blush / Bronzer Duos retail for $38 and are available in 6 blush shades* and 2 bronzer colors:
- Soft Peach – peachy nude
- Pink Dahlia – soft pink
- Mojave Mauve – dusty rose
- Warm Home – bronzed rose
- Spiced Cinnamon – terracotta flush
- Sweet Mulberry – rich berry
- Sunkissed Bronze – soft bronze
- Suntan Bronze – rich bronze
These bronzing and blush duos are vegan, cruelty, and gluten free. They are also formulated without talc and are labeled Clean at Sephora.
I purchased Sunkissed Bronze.
the packaging
Ooooh, this packaging! A lot of luxe brands immediately gravitate toward the blacks and golds for packaging. But this creamy beige compact is so sleek, satisfying, and luxurious. The mirror is crisp and pretty large. And there is a magnetic closure, which I really enjoy on products.
the formula + review
All eight shades are formulated with Cover FX’s unique blend of skin emollients — notably without talc — to give the powder an incredibly creamy feeling and super-smooth, buttery feel that blends seamlessly onto the face without looking cakey or chalky. I can’t explain the feeling of these bronzer powders* any way except cream-like. They definitely are powders but are so soft and smooth.
Like I said, I was looking for a glowy type of bronzing product, and this is a definite winner. I. Think. These. Are. Fantastic. The matte side is so buttery smooth and leaves your skin with an almost airbrushed effect. And the shimmer side is incredible. At first glance, you may think it’s going to act like a highlight–intensely shimmery. But it’s not. The shimmer side is definitely shimmery, but there is no glitter. It’s soft and leaves your skin with a very natural looking glow.
The powders are intensely pigmented yet buildable. It’s pretty much foolproof to gradually create a look that’s subtle or statement making. What I love about these duos is that you can really customize your bronze. You can go 100% matte, 100% shimmer, or you can mix the two as little or as much as you’d like.
I will say Sunkissed Bronze* pulls a little red — at least on my skin. So that’s something to keep in mind. But I do feel that adding the shimmer shade on top tones it down a bit.
I’ve also been using this on my face as well as my eyes for a bronzed goddess makeup look and have been enjoying that.
the bottom line:
Don’t walk, run. I recommend these, 10/10.
I think I’ll go pick up some blushes* now. (OK, not right now, but I will eventually.)
