We’ve talked previously about how quickly and consistently brands are releasing fall and holiday products. If you’ve missed those posts, it’s a lot! And while I’m definitely guilty of being caught up in the newness, I’ve also been trying to really enjoy what I own. I hate that I will use something once or twice and then forget about it when a shiny new product launches.
There are a handful of new products I’m introducing to my makeup bag this fall, but I wanted to take a peek at what I was loving last year. Do I still love it? Will I still be using this consistently this fall? Why? Why not? So let’s see.
NARS Blush in ‘Goulue’
NARS blushes are one of my favorite blush formulas. They’re silky and go on smoothly, easily blendable and healthy looking at the cheek. ‘Goulue’ is a warm berry shade with gold shimmer. The color is that warm rosy tone that’s perfect for fall. I will say, this is hella pigmented, so a little goes a long way. Don’t use a heavy hand, or you will look like a clown. But with a light hand, the shade is beautiful. I wore it a ton last fall, and it’s already in my everyday makeup drawer.
Milani Baked Blush in’Red Vino’
Milani’s baked blushes are another of my favorite formulas. The texture is smooth and silky. And while it gives a natural glow to your cheeks, it doesn’t leave any sort of chunky glitter behind. ‘Red Vino’ is described as a berry red with gold shimmer. It’s intimidating in the pan, and though it is immensely pigmented, it’s easy to work with. Honestly, it’s quite similar to ‘Goulue.’
I definitely will use these red/berry blush tones for fall 2018. Personally, I think it looks really nice against my really fair skin (of course it looks good on all skin tones, but you know what I mean). It also complements a multitude of eye looks from oranges to brown to reds, etc.
Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in ‘Pumpkin’
Oh Kylie. Last year, it seemed everyone was on the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick train! I wasn’t fully on board, but I was on the platform. When she released the shade ‘Pumpkin,’ I was over the moon. The earthy orange tones are my jam–pumpkin is described as a dirty, mid-tone orange. And I used this a ton!
The color is great. It really looks nice against my skin, and I get a lot of wear from it because it goes with so many eye looks. The formula is ok. It’s not my favorite liquid lipstick. I’m not alone in thinking this, but I think it’s drying, sometimes uncomfortably so. To combat that, I usually apply a pretty generous amount of lip balm prior to application. That seems to make a difference.
I’ve mentioned that I’m shying away from matte lipsticks, and I am. I don’t think I’ll never wear this this year, but I know it won’t be one I reach for frequently.
Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in ‘Boho” + ‘Vino’
I told you we were all on a matte train last year. These matte lip colors from Nudestix are great. They last on the lips forever and through everything. But like the liquid lipsticks from Kylie, they’re so drying. And they’re the kind of lip product that puckers on the lips throughout the day, which isn’t a cute look. I also notice the middle starts to flake off long before the outside does. When it starts to feel dry, I use a balm, and I’m more comfortable. It even makes the puckering look less noticeable.
‘Boho’ is a 1960’s inspired brown. It’s pretty neutral, not too cool but not super warm. And ‘Vino’ is a homemade wine shade. It’s beautiful. I probably won’t reach for these, truthfully. I have so many products I like more.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Black Cherry’
A fall classic <3 I don’t think fall comes around without someone talking about Black Cherry from Revlon. It’s one of their creme finish Super Lustrous lipsticks in a deep burgundy color. I think this is such a versatile shade. Applied straight from the bullet, it’s so dark and vampy with a shine finish. Dabbed on with a finger or blotted, you get a wine stained berry that’s gorgeous.
The formula is what I’m into recently. It’s comfortable on the lips and offers a bit of shine. But I don’t think I’ll reach for this a ton this year! I’m much more drawn to rosy nudes and browns recently.
Wet ‘n Wild Photofocus Foundation
When this was released, it was a pretty big deal. It was an effective full coverage foundation at an amazingly inexpensive price point. It was tested under a bunch of different types of light and was supposed to make you look #nofilter. Everyone went crazy, myself included. While a lot of people didn’t like it, I did. And I still do.
It has a pretty potent chemical smell at first, but fortunately it doesn’t linger. The coverage starts at about a medium-full coverage that’s buildable to a very natural looking full-coverage. It doesn’t get cakey on the skin, but it does tend to cling to dry patches. While I have been opting for very light coverage these day, there are days when I do what a fuller coverage base. This is on hand for those days. Because I think this is a great foundation.
My shade: ‘Porcelain’
Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Sequin’
I’m not going to linger a whole lot, because I gab about ‘Sequin’ a lot. It’s a rosy, penny copper w/ a lot of multidimensional glitter. It’s gorgeous on the eye, and makes my blue eyes pop. I like to apply this all over the lid with my finger and gently blend out the edges for a one shadow eye look.
This is always a favorite, so you know it’ll be in my everyday makeup drawer for fall 2018.
I like to re-evaluate my makeup preferences from time to time. It helps me declutter things I no longer have a use for and refrains me from buying products I’ll hardly use. Do you do this?
