As much as I love a bold, red statement lip or a sultry berry, there’s something fresh and youthful about a good pink lipstick. Pinks aren’t new to the scene. They reoccur decade after decade, but brands are always reinventing and coming up with fresh ways to wear the trend.
If you’re anything like me, you’re a creature of habit. I have a handful of reds and nudes that I gravitate toward on a daily basis. They work, and I know they complement almost every eye look. But with spring finally here, I’ve wanted to freshen and switch things up. I’ve also seen recent releases from Anastasia and Kylie Cosmetics featuring pinks–not pinky nudes, just pinks. So it may be a trend we see from more brands this summer.
Today I’m bringing you my favorite pink lipsticks of the moment–ranging from drugstore to high end. And I’m not just talking sheer pinks, either.
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in ‘Berry Rose’
This is not the first time I’ve talked about the lipstick or shade. These are great. The Moisture Renew lipsticks are formulated with vitamins A, C, and E which make you lips feel conditioned, hydrated, and other general goodness. ‘Berry Rose,’ particularly, is a very blue-based berry pink shade and one of the brighter shades on this list. It has a pretty shimmery finish, but it doesn’t look glittery or odd on the lips. And the formula is so creamy and comfortable on your lips.
It costs about $6 depending on where you purchase.
Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in ‘Blushing Bud’
If you haven’t tried any of the Color Sensational lipsticks from Maybelline, I suggest you get on that. The formula is so comfortable, and the honey nectar gives a creamy but natural finish. The Rebel Bloom collection takes your basic pastels and amps them up a bit. So ‘Blushing Bud’ is a very cool, pastel pink but with a pop. It instantly brightens my complexion.
It’ll cost you about $7, again, depending on where you purchase it.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in ‘Fig’
Bite Beauty’s lip products are just special to me. I love them. The Amuse Bouche lip products are made in small batches in low heat to preserve the food-grade ingredients. ‘Fig’ is described as a nude rose, but it definitely looks like a cool-toned, bright pink on my skin tone. I’m going to sound like a broken record in this post, but this formula is so comfortable. It’s creamy, but not so creamy that it slides all over the place. And it lasts for a decent amount of time. You’ll have to reapply throughout the day, but it fades nicely.
The Amuse Bouche lipsticks will run you $26, but is worth it.
Bare Minerals Gen Nude in ‘Swag’
I’m going the be general here, because the Gen Nude range carries the same shades into 4 finishes and types of products. I have a lot of these, but today I wanted to highlight the shade ‘Swag.’ It’s described as a blushing mauve and available in the 4 finishes: matte liquid, high shine liquid, gloss, and satin lipstick. The products are primer infused and moisturizing on the lips. I love a comfortable lip product … have you caught onto that?
The ‘Swag’ products will cost $18-$20, depending on the product you choose.
YSL Glossy Stain Lip Color in ‘Pink Taboo’
This is the most expensive product on this list, $32, and if you haven’t tried one of these Glossy Lip colors, a vibrant watermelon may not be your first choice. But if it is, you surely won’t be disappointed. These are highly pigmented and have the long-wear power of a stain with the high-shine of a gloss.
What’s really interesting about these YSL products is the applicator. It has a unique slant, unlike anything I’ve seen on other similar products. The slant makes it really easy to apply to the outside of your lip, which is nice with bold shades like this.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Primrose’
Sometimes I want a new lip color, but I’m not interested in anything specific. In those cases, I go to the drugstore and sift through the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks. They’re so good, and one of my favorite lip lines ever–drugstore and high end. That’s also how I discovered ‘Primrose.’ It’s a lovely medium toned pink (it kind of borders purple, but is pink).
This shade in particular is a creamy satin finish. Like the Amuse Bouche formula from Bite, this isn’t going to last all day long. But it fades and reapplies nicely.
It’s the least expensive on this list as well, coming in at $4.
Coloupop Ultra Matte Liquid Lip in ‘Fresh Cut’
Colourpop really can’t do any wrong in my opinion, even with their Ultra Matte lips. I’m not going to lie, these are really drying on the lips, but ‘Fresh Cut’ is such a good color, I don’t care. One good quality about a drying matte liquid lip is that it’s transfer-proof. This is one bright mauve/pink Isaac will actually kiss me while wearing. I have to assure him it’s not coming off a few times, but he kisses me nonetheless.
These are a steal at $6.50.
Fresh Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 in ‘Tulip’
Everyone knows I’m a huge advocate of sun protection, and when I can find a solid lip product with SPF, I’m in. I think I’ve used this product in every shade, and I love them all. They’re extremely moisturizing and protect against UV rays and free radicals. The color is initially very sheer, but can easily be built up to a more powerful color. You’re never going to get a super opaque color, which makes this product great for no makeup days.
‘Tulip’ is a sheer hot pink and costs $24.
Lancome L’Absolu Rouge in ‘O Oui’ + ‘Exotic Orchid’
I love both of these so much, I couldn’t just pick one. The L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks come in 3 finishes: high-shine, matte, and satin. But the satin finish is my favorite, and also has the most color variety. Say it with me, these are very comfortable lipsticks that wear for about 8 hours, which I think is amazing for a stick-form lipstick.
I know packaging isn’t more important than the product inside, but the packaging is really nice (and help ease the $32 price tag.) It features a magnetic closure to the sleek bullet that I am in love with.
The two pink shades I love out of this line are ‘O Oui’ and ‘Exotic Orchid.’ ‘O Oui‘ is a vibrant pink while ‘Exotic Orchid‘ is a more every day blush color.
