Happy almost weekend, friends!
We’re getting back to The Lipstick Narratives roots with a lipstick post today. As I was switching out products in my everyday makeup storage last week, I realized I wasn’t moving a single lip product. I’ve been really consistent with the lip colors I’ve been wanting thus far this summer, which is crazy considering how many lipsticks I actually own. (Too many.)
Summer always makes me gravitate to punchier, brighter colors than any other time of year. But I still sometimes want a pink or want a nude or want an orange. I knew I wanted to share these favorite summer lip colors with you, but I kind of wanted to challenge myself. So today we’re talking about my favorite summer lip colors, but I’ve limited it to one product per color category.
Keep reading to find out which lip products you’ll see my in all summer long.
Pink
If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know I love ‘Fig’ from Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche line. Described as a ‘dusty rose,’ it shows up on my skin tone as the most beautiful petal pink shade. It doesn’t blend into the pink tones in my skin, and adds a fresh pop of color for summer.
I love this formula for summer, because while the lipstick is creamy, it isn’t creamy enough that it’ll slide all over your lips in the heat. You definitely feel the lipstick on your lips, but it’s not drying or uncomfortable. And what makes Bite’s lip products so special is that they are made with food grade ingredients.
Red
Reds are my favorite. Funny short story about red lipstick. Like T. Swift, red lips used to be my signature. So much so that one day in college, I showed up to class in a petal pink, and someone noticed and commented on it. The segway I wanted to make is I own and have used a lot of red lipstick, so I have favorites.
Oftentimes, reds can be fussy, and in summer heat, the last thing I want to do is worry about feathering and fading all day. Enter Glossier’s Generation G lipstick in ‘Zip.’ ‘Zip’ is the most subtle but beautiful poppy red, and the formula is easy, and one I really appreciate.
The idea of the Gen. G lipsticks is that they give your lips the appearance of just-blotted lipstick without the blot. It’s designed to be a subtle, sheer wash of matte color. While ‘Zip’ can be built up to an opaque lip color, the shade isn’t as vibrant as other reds, which is why I like it. It also fades to perfection and gives you that “I just had a cherry popsicle” look.

Coral/Orange
I know I said reds are my favorite, but this summer, oranges are creeping up there. Milani’s Color Statement Lipstick in “Orange-gina” is far from new to my collection, but I can’t stop wearing it recently. It compliments my skin tone amazingly, but will also look amazing on any skin tone from the palest of pale to the darkest of dark. When I apply this, my blue eyes also pop instantly. It’s amazing.
The shade itself is a vibrant orange with a gold glitter. The glitter scared me at first, but it doesn’t get chunky or gritty on the lips. It’s more of a shimmer. Formula wise, it’s very matte; however, I don’t find it to be drying. If I am going to wear it multiple days in a row, I will wear a pretty heavy balm underneath, because I do notice drying with prolonged wear.
Nude
I’m not typically a nude gal. Only last fall did I get into wearing nude shades. However, this summer, I’ve been living in ‘Wink’ from Julep. Firstly, if you’ve never used anything from Julep, you’re missing out. And I really suggest you try their products. Second, unfortunately, I don’t believe you can get this shade from the Light of Your Lips line anymore; however, they do have something similar that I recommend.
‘Wink’ is a pinky/peachy nude, but it’s not vibrant, so it looks really subtle and natural on the lips. For something similar, the It”s Balm Full-Coverage Crayon in ‘Apricot Nude’ is a good option. Those lip crayons are also very moisturizing and comfortable on the lips. And the shade is very similar. I will say, it’s more sheer than ‘Wink,’ but I’ve noticed if I wear it over a nude lip liner, I do get a familiar effect.
Regardless, I highly recommend the It’s Balm lip crayons. I have a few, and I wear them frequently.

Berry
During the cooler months, I love a vampy berry shade, but in the summer, I immediately reach for ‘Berry Haute’ from Revlon. It has the dark berry tones I love from my fall alternatives, but it’s a little more purple and blue toned, so it shows up brighter and more vibrant on my lips.
I’ve spoken about Revlon lipsticks before, but they are such a good buy at the drugstore. I find the Super Lustrous lipsticks to be extremely comfortable on the lips. Like any traditional bullet lip product, it’s not going to last all day, but it reapplies well and fades nicely.
Gloss
I’m a gloss newbie. If you’d have asked me a year ago about my favorite gloss, I literally wouldn’t have one because I didn’t wear it. This year; however, I’ve been intrigued. Since I’m a new gloss lover, I cheated and chose two. I have a favorite nude and a favorite red gloss.
Nude Gloss
I’ve loved ‘Charming’ from Colourpop. It’s the most beautiful peachy nude, and has a ton of gold glitter that is gorgeous on the lips. It pairs well with so many other lipsitcks and liners I own. And I find the formula of Colourpop’s glosses to be really comfortable. One thing I hate about most glosses is that they are heavy and sticky, but I don’t find these to be.

Red Gloss
The most fussy lip product I have on this list, is the ‘Love Bird Affair’ Color Icon gloss from Wet ‘n Wild’s Flights of Fancy collection. It’s a beautiful red shade with the slightest hint of orange, which creates an interesting color. Like the Colourpop glosses, Wet ‘n Wild’s glosses are far from goopy and sticky. I find them to be comfortable, and I enjoy wearing them. This shade in particular, though, tends to feather a little, so make sure you wear a liner to combat that.
Balm
I’ve talked about this before, and if you follow beaut influencers, so have they…but I am obsessed with the Sleeping Lip Mask from Laneige. At night before bed, this is great and thick and leaves me with hydrated, luscious lips come morning. But I reach for this all day long. It is so hydrating, and my lips have been freaking out recently. It plays well under other lip products, and adds a light pink wash of moisture on its own.
