Temperatures are heating up! And I really think spring in WV is here to stay, finally. I’m excited to break out my spring colored clothing and open toed shoes. But more than in previous years, I’m excited to break out some fun spring makeup looks that involve color, which is a little out of character for me.
I was inspired by a Vogue article about 5 colorful makeup looks to try out this season, but I wanted to make it my own. And my own is using color in a very everyday kind of way. Blessed be those who can don an Instagram worthy colorful eye on the day to day, but I tend to subdue my makeup just a bit for the everyday look. So that’s what we’re doing today.
I’ve created 3 colorful and wearable spring makeup looks I think you’ll love for Spring 2019.
l o o k # 1 statement lids
Runways for Spring/Summer 2019 showed all sorts of risky lid situations ranging from pastel, candy colored lids to molten blacks. I, on the other hand, have really been feeling this bright turquoise shade all over the lid!
the inspiration :
You can see in the inspo photo, the model is decked out with a bright teal shadow all over the lid and little else. The eye shadow is very opaque and very angular and defined and there is no mascara, which really makes the pop of color shine. The skin looks fresh but not dewy. And the lips are bare.
a wearable, everyday spin:
To make this a little less drastic, first I started with a similar turquoise color on the lid. But instead of really carving out an angular shape, I blended the edges to a softer finish. Not only did this extra blending soften the edges, it also diffused the color a bit to be a little more transparent–still opaque, but definitely not as saturated.
I also chose to add a bit of mascara to lessen the stark contrast between a heavy eye and a no lash look. In my opinion, the mascara opens your eye and kind of is familiar, which makes the color seem less harsh.
I finished off the skin with a lighter weight base product, bronzer, flush pink blush, and pink toned gloss.
Adding the extra makeup to the face creates less of a contrast between the bare face and defined eyes, making it a little more everyday and wearable, IMO.

l o o k # 2 neon lips
I love adding a bright lip with almost no other makeup. When paired with fresh and glowy skin, a neon lip adds a succulent punch of color and is perfect for warm weather.
the inspiration:
I love this neon orange lip! The skin from the inspo photo is fresh, hydrated, and glowy with intense wet looking highlight on the high points. It’s also been bronzed up and flushed with a swipe of intense blush. The eyes are minimal, with only a dab of highlight in the inner corners.
Like the makeup in the previous look, donning a vibrant lip with little other makeup creates a contrast that makes a definite and beautiful statement.
a wearable, everyday spin:
But while it’s gorgeous, not everyone likes the look of an intense color on the mouth without a little something on the eye. So I created a soft eye look and paired it with two different lip options, you can choose depending on how spunky you’re feeling.
FOR THE EYES: I started real simply by dusting a muted dusty purple all over the lid and into the crease. Next, I tapped on a purple based glitter lightly on the lid. Once I added some mascara and added a bit of highlight to the inner corner, I was done.
FOR THE FACE: Keeping in touch with the inspiration photo, I made sure my foundation was a natural finish and slathered highlight onto my cheekbones. I also went in with a pinky/purpley blush to match the lips.
FOR THE LIPS: I wear a bright reds and oranges often, so I wanted to switch it up a bit, so I went with a neon, lavender purple instead. The top look is the most wearable option. I went with a cream lipstick that gives a very subtle but bright effect while also being comfortable. And for look two, I went straight out matte neon. Is that really an everyday lip? It doesn’t come off, so I’d say it’s great for everyday wear!

l o o k # 3 unexpected wing
One of my favorite ways to add a pop of color into a spring makeup look is by give a classic winged liner with a twist.
the inspiration:
A deep red is unexpected yet timeless.
a wearable, everyday spin:
Red can be a bit difficult to wear around the eye, especially if you’re like me and have irritable eyes that easily get red. So to make this bold look a little more wearable for everyday, I opted for a royal blue wing instead. The only things I did to the eye was brush a little of my bronzer all over the lid and pop on some mascara.
For the face, I wanted it to look fresh and glowing rather than matte, though that’s up to you. I heavily bronzed and added a little peachy blush to the apples of the cheeks. And don’t forget to slather on the highlight!
On the lips, I kept it pretty simple with a peachy, opaque gloss to complement the eyes.
