There’s something about the start of a new season that makes you want to spring into refreshment mode. We want to revamp our closets, makeup routines, list of goals, and update our homes.
Updating your home for a new season can be pricey, but it doesn’t have to be! I’ve curated a list of 5 easy home updates for spring that are either totally or nearly free!
1 | give your space a good cleaning
Nothing says “Spring has sprung” like a good, deep cleaning. I mean…they don’t say “spring cleaning” for nothing, folks! Cleaning your space will instantaneously make it feel fresh and refreshing. Simply doing basic things like cleaning the bathroom (toilet included), dusting all of the surfaces (including the ceiling fans, trust), making the beds, and doing a quick vacuum will make such a tremendous difference in how your space feels.
Imagine if you go deeper and mop the floors, declutter the fridge, and wipe down any dirty marks on the walls! Deep cleaning is sometimes a pain, but personally I always feel so much more rejuvenated once it’s done.
2 | open the windows
Spring weather is some of my favorite weather. It’s usually chilly in the mornings, warm in the afternoon, and breezy in the evenings. You’ve have your windows shut up all winter, and it’s probably getting a little stuffy. You probably don’t even notice! Open the windows today and let the fresh air in!
One of my favorite ways to make my home feel inviting is by opening a window. Sure, I get the daylight when the windows are closed, but I get the life of wind when they’re open. And you breathe a little easier.
3 | liven up your space with fresh scents
Scent is very powerful sense, and who doesn’t want their space to smell amazing? Cleaning and opening a window will put you on the right track, but there are some other things you can do to make sure your home smells fresh. Here are some of my favorite ways (that isn’t lighting a candle) to keep my house smelling pleasant:
- Put your essential oil diffuser to good use: One of my favorite spring oil recipes is a combination of grapefuit (3 drops), lime (1), spearmint (1), and geranium (1).
- Use good smelling cleaning products: Two birds, one stone. Get your space clean AND smelling good with the same product. I enjoy Mrs. Meyers products for a lot of my cleaning needs. Radish is my go-to scent for the kitchen and multi-surface sprays, and I use Basil for the laundry. But Mrs. Meyers has a lot of delicious scents.
- Don’t neglect your garbage disposal. One of my favorite tricks to keeping my garbage disposal from omitting odor is by freezing left over lemon, limes, and oranges and dropping them into the disposal. Just cut them into small chunk, pop them in the freezer to keep longer, drop a few in the disposal, and turn it on.
4 | add some fresh flora
There are few things I love more than a good faux plant. They never die – even when you forget to water them. However, there’s something really special about having fresh flowers around your home.
Floral arrangements can be quite expensive, but pre-made bouquets aren’t the only option. Try just picking out bunches of one or two options that speak to you, cutting them to the appropriate length, and just stick them in a vessel! It doesn’t have to be fancy or extravagant. Sometimes the simplicity of a few sprigs of greenery in a glass can be exactly what your space needs. Not to mention flowers are an easy way to add a quick pop of spring color to your home.
Some of my favorite options for a quick, inexpensive flower moment are tulips, Italian ruscus, and hydrangeas.
5 | switch out decor
And I’m not talking about going out and buying loads of new spring decor. I mean simply swap out what you’ve currently got going on for anything new.
One of my favorite ways to give my space a quick and free refresh is rearranging the decorations on my shelves, coffee table, dresser, etc. 9 times out of 10, this doesn’t require purchasing anything. All I do is wander around my home, pulling little trinkets and accessories for the given color palette or vibe I’m going for.

Right!? And it’s 100% free!
I’m constantly arguing with my bf over opening the blinds (he likes them closed).
