Summer is here (in a few days), and while most people are planning vacations, I’m sitting here figuring out to look like Gigi Hadid. I mean…her skin is perfect; it’s so glowy and healthy looking. I’m sure it’s a little bit of good genes and a little bit of quality products, but you won’t find the secret to glowy skin in a pan of Becca Opal.
Getting skin that always looks like you’re fresh from holiday–which is healthy, radiant and clear–is a combination of product, practice, and patience. Today we’re talking all about how you can get glowy skin without booking a flight to Turks and Caicos.
1 | Get a regular face massage.
The stimulation from massages can help get the blood moving to wake up your entire complexion. While you could go to the spa for regular massages, you can also get into the habit of giving them to yourself at home. You could use a jade roller or your fingertips to massage a serum or oil into your skin before makeup.
2 | Drink plenty of water, eat your veggies & get enough sleep.
Amazing skin starts with the inside: great sleep, clean diet, and lots of water can help make glowy skin happen!
3 | Be consistent with your skincare routine.
If you Google how to have good skin, it’s likely you’ll find a plethora of articles telling your to be consistent with your skincare routines. And they’re right. Consistency is key. Forgoing washing your makeup off one night can wreck your skin (I would know). Whether your skincare consists of 3 products or 13, stick to it everyday. Your skin will thank you.
4 | Exfoliate.
Exfoliating weekly removes dead skin cells and helps speed up your skin’s process for cell renewal–in turn, helping your achieve healthy and glowing skin. Personally, I prefer to use a chemical, glycolic acid exfoliate, like The Ordinary Glycold Acid toner or Tatcha’s Rice Enzyme Powder for something gentler.
5 | Moisturize.
One of the keys to glowy skin is hydration, so be sure to use a moisturizer daily (AM & PM). The type of moisturizer will depend on your skin type, but ensuring your skin has enough moisture/hydration will result in a healthy, glowy complexion.
Some ingredients I like in my moisturizers and other skincare products that help me achieve glowy skin are: Vitamin C, retinoid, ceramides, rose hip oil, and hyaluronic acid.
6 | Strategically placed glow.
Whether you’re applying a full face of “no makeup” makeup or genuinely going #nomakeup, glowy skin is all about strategy. And the secret is applying luminosity to the key areas of your face. Dab highlighter on cheekbones, brow bone, down the bridge of the nose, and on the cupid’s bow. These areas are most likely to be hit by the light naturally.
I like using cream products for this, and applying them with my fingers. Some of my favorite glowy highlighting products include: YSL’s Touche Eclat Brightening Pen, RMS Living Luminizer, Marc Jacobs Glow Stick, Perricone MD No Makeup Highlighter, and L’Oreal Magic Lumi highlighter.
And sometimes I even dab on a clear gloss or Aquaphor!
7 | Get a little help from your friends (i.e. makeup)
Maybe your skin is lacking a natural radiance or you just want a bit more; there’s nothing wrong with phoning a friend to help you achieve glowy skin. There are tons of illuminating products on the market from primers to foundations to powders!
Some of my favorite illuminating products are:
