New year, same me. And by same me, I mean same subscription box. I’ve been subscribed to the Allure Beauty Box for years now, and out of all of them I’m tried in the past, it’s my favorite. In my opinion, it’s a great value and mix of well known and new to me brands. But 2020 is bringing something a little new for subscription services on The Lipstick Narratives. Before I jump into the Allure Beauty Box January 2020, let me outline the newness.
We’re shaking up the way you’re able to consumer my content in the new year. Every month, I’ll be doing a live unboxing of this box over on Instagram stories (make sure you’re following me over there). Here I’ll introduce each product. At the same time, you’ll be able to view this blog post with more detailed information on each product.
As much as I hate listening to my own voice on video, I just wanted to try something new. Plus, in an official Instagram poll, the people wanted video AND written unboxings. I’m just giving the people what they want.
Let’s jump into the first Allure Beauty Box of 2020, shall we?
The Basics
Since it’s a new year, I’m going to reintroduce the box. Allure’s Beauty Box will cost you $15 per month ($10 for your first box with this referral link). In the box, you receive 5-7 products (at least 2 full size products) worth $70+ and a mini mag with tips, step by step tutorials, and exclusive offers.
Check out some of my favorite unboxings from the past here, here, and here.
The Goods
[ m a k e u p ]
Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara*: I’ve not tested this out yet; I have too many open mascaras at the moment. But I can tell from the wand, if you want volume, you’re probably not going to get it. The Gifted mascara is supposed to give your lashes natural length and a little volume. I don’t have much to say quite yet, but I like the wooden packaging.
Full size in box ; $23
*You will receive Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara OR Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara.
Akar Skin Pure Lip Restoration: Unfortunately, I’m someone who suffers from perpetual dry and cracked lips, and in the winter it’s the worst. The Akar Skin Pure Lip Restoration is supposed to add immense hydration with almond and castor oil, while beeswax locks in moisture. While marketed as a lip balm, I fully tend on using this on rough patches all over. It feels so hydrating on the skin!
Full size in box ; $30

Kate Somerville Exfolikate: This is the only product in this month’s box I’ve used before. I reach for this when my skin needs some serious help. The grainy past works as a 3-in-1 mask, scrub, and peel all at the same time. It keeps my skin soft and smooth. But if you have sensitive skin, tread lightly.
Full size $75/1.7 oz. ; Box value ~$11/.25 oz.
Philosophy Renewed Hope in a Jar Water Cream: I love discovering new moisturizers, and I’m excited to put this one on my face. It’s fluffy at first and then melts into a watery fluid that leaves your skin plump, hydrated, and happy. I’ve only used it on my hand thus far, but I want to slather it all over my body, honestly.
Full size $39/2 oz. ; Box value $4.50
Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum: This serum combines two of my favorite skincare ingredients: vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. It’s supposed to leave skin brighter, smoother, and moisturized. And vitamin C helps smooth texture and promote new collagen, which helps reduce texture. I’ve never used anything from Vitabrid, so I’m excited to test this out!
Full size $62/30 mL ; Box value $~$20.60

Naturelab Perfect Shine Oil Mist: If you’ve been around a while, you know I’m working through some major hair issues. If you’re new, I’m working through some major hair issues. This Shine Oil Mist is supposed to leave your hair will a mirror-like shine, as the name would suggest. This makes me a little nervous; my roots can get a bit oily. But I’ll try to keep it toward the ends of the hair shaft and see what happens!
Full size $16/4 oz. ; Box value $4

So how was the Allure Beauty Box January 2020? All in all, this isn’t my favorite box I’ve ever received, but I’m never going to turn down some seriously hydrating products. We also received a full sized mascara and lip balm! Stay tuned for February.
