If you’ve ever renovated a home, you’ll know the process isn’t quick, and it isn’t necessarily easy. Fitz and I are learning that. However, 8 months later, we finally have a finished room! I mean, if there is such a thing. And the thing that finally brought it together was the addition of custom blinds from Select Blinds. How did we enjoy the experience? Find out in this Select Blinds review.
In our initial round of renovations–the painting, the carpet replacement, etc–we decided to invest in custom blinds for our living room (& later our dining room). We did this for a few reasons:
- We have a beautiful & large window in our living room, and it’s lovely. However, our house is east facing, so we get a ton of early morning light (good but bright). It’s also looking onto a major road and other houses, and we wanted a little privacy.
- Because of the size, we were finding window treatments to be a tricky endeavor, not to mention an expensive one.
- I always loved the blinds Isaac’s sister’s living room, and she said they were from Select Blinds.
The Options + Process of Ordering –
We knew we wanted wooden blinds in a rich orange based brown for the living and dining room, and Select Blinds had a ton of really great options. Though, they have a plethora of options ranging from faux wood blinds to Roman shades to roller shades to shutters and more.
Ordering
The first step was logging on and ordering our samples. We curated a selection of colors we may be interested in and ordered the samples for free. I loved being able to see the color sample in real life, as opposed to just on the website, because it allowed us to visualize them with the paint and furniture we had selected.
The next step was actually ordering the blinds, which was tremendously easy. After you’ve selected your type of window treatment and color, the next options/requirements are as followed:
- Mount type (inside the window frame or outside)
- Measurements (more on this in a minute)
- Lift systems – You have the first option to choose from a standard lift or cordless lift. If choosing a standard lift, you can choose between a wand or cord and which side of the window they will live.
- Headrail options – This is where you can decide if you’d like one large blind or a split rail. However, depending on your measurements, you may not have a choice. They explain it further when making your selections.
Measurements
Initially I was a little nervous to be measuring these at home. 1) They’re a pricey buy, I didn’t want to mess it up, and 2) I didn’t want them to look wonky on my windows. However, the process was simple and straight forward, and by the end I wasn’t nervous at all.
When placing your order, Select Blinds tells you exactly where to measure, so there’s no added stress.
Installation –
If I can install these blinds, you know they’re easy to work with. Installation was so simple, and I actually loved the ease of not needing to set up a time for someone to come into my home to install.
The Bottom Line –
I seriously couldn’t recommend custom blinds more, specifically Select Blinds.
The process was incredibly simple (the most difficult part was deciding!). And I think they look amazing and high quality. I think that custom blinds add a sophisticated and intentional touch to your windows and home and truly ties your space together. Not to mention how reasonable the prices are!
The warmth of the wood we chose makes our space feel cozy and homey, and we enjoy opening them up to let in all the fantastic natural light we receive. But they’ve got options for literally everyone.
And there is our Select Blinds review. We really love them and will more likely than not go to Select Blinds when it comes to furnishing the rest of the windows in the home. Have any of you purchased or considered custom window treatments for your home? Do you have any other questions about the experience? Let me know! I’m happy to help.

Glad you enjoyed your experience. Me, not so much. Waiting nearly 2 months for Select Blinds to get my order right as boxes sit in my living room, waiting to be completed. Very frustrating ordeal.
