Wow! Hi friends! It’s been a minute since I’ve babbled over here, and I apologize. Mental health priorities sometimes consist of breaking from certain things, and unfortunately this little community took the hit in February. I have a few posts coming in the near future regarding mental health, but today we’re talking about a NEW foundation release I’m stoked about.
If you’ve been around for any amount of time, you probably know my favorite base product of all time is the Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer from Bare Minerals. You can imagine my excitement when I got word Bare Minerals was releasing a foundation stick in their Complexion Rescue line! Of course I pre-ordered that foundation, and have been testing it for a week or so. And I have some thoughts.
the basics
I’ve gotten into foundation sticks recently, and I had a feeling I was going to love this new BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Foundation Stick.
The Complexion Rescue foundation stick was released in 20 shades. It retails for $32, and you get .35 oz. of product. It also contains SPF 25. For reference, here is how the Bare Minerals stick compares to some other popular, high end stick foundations:
- MUFE HD: .44 oz.
- Hourglass Vanish: .25 oz.
This clean, water-based liquid foundation in a stick claims to combine hydrating skincare benefits and SPF with a naturally-radiant, buildable, medium coverage. It’s also supposed to help protect against pollution–environmental aggressors, heavy metals, and blue lights.
Below I’ve included swatches, along with swatches of some of my other stick foundations as well as the original Complexion Rescue product.
This product is also vegan and cruelty, fragrance, and gluten free.
the formula
The Complexion Rescue foundation stick is marketed as a hydrating stick foundation. Bare Minerals says it combines the best of Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer with medium, buildable coverage and natural finish in a convenient, on-the-go format. It contains over 30% Enhanced Mineral Water.
You’re going to get a light to medium coverage, but it’s definitely not going to give you full coverage. It also has a naturally radiant finish.
the review
Since I adore the Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer, I thought I’d love the foundation stick, and I was right!
I agree that it is a hydrating formula. It’s water based, and I swear you can feel all of that water when you swipe it on your skin. Once applied, this isn’t a foundation I can feel as time goes on. It melts into your skin seamlessly.
As for the coverage, you’re definitely not getting any more than a medium coverage from this–which is fine by me, as I tend to prefer light coverage products anyway. It’s not going to cover major blemishes, but it almost puts a subtle smoothing filter over your skin. I believe there was a sponge designed to go along with this, but I apply it with my Hourglass foundation brush (a denser brush).
I notice this foundation breaks up on my chin, along my jaw, and right around my nose after about 7-9 hours of wear. However, I never count that as a negative against a base product, because I’m one of those people that leans on their hand and scratches at my nose a lot.
comparison to complexion rescue tinted moisturizer
If you are a fan of the tinted moisturizer, here are 2 main comparisons I think you should be aware of:
- The tinted moisturizer has an SPF of 30; the foundation has an SPF of 25.
- Coverage level in the tinted moisturizer is a solid sheer-light; coverage level in the foundation is light-medium.
I think the new foundation stick is pretty dang identical to the original. It has the same lightweight feel and the same naturally radiant finish and overall essence of the original. If you love the Complexion Rescue moisturizer but wish you had just a bit more coverage, I think think is for you.
the bottom line
I recommend the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Foundation Stick!
If you want a base product that is hydrating, natural in finish, and has a bit of coverage but nothing too heavy, I think this is a great foundation for you.

This sounds like such a great foundation! I’ve never used a stick foundation before but I’d definitely consider this one. I’m a fan of a light-mid coverage as well so it sounds like a product that I’d love x
