As much as I love the warm, dark, and smokey makeup looks of the fall and winter seasons, I am always thrilled when spring rolls around. Transitioning into bright, vibrant, and energetic colors is fun and a great way to dismiss the lingering winter blues. So far for spring, I’ve been into peach and coral colors, blues, and purples. Here are 9 of my beauty must haves for spring + summer.
- Brown Lips
I literally just said I liked transitioning out of fall, but I’m still loving brown lips for spring. As far as trends are concerned, we’re seeing a lot of multi-season colors. With the ’90s comeback still in full swing, browns aren’t for colder weather anymore. I personally love seeing the trend of straying away from typical spring colors and really wearing what you want.Lusting after: Colourpop’s Taurus Lippie Stick; $5
- Metallic Orange Lips
Whilst at CVS the other day, I was looking through the Milani display at their lipsticks, and I found the Color Statement Lipstick in ‘Orange-Gina.’ It’s a vibrant orange with a gold metallic shine. It will make a huge statement with minimal makeup and dewy, fresh skin. - Coral Lips
I love coral lips year round, but this spring I’m extra excited. My favorite is ‘Niagra’ from NARS, and I have actually repurchased this lipstick a few times (which never happens). - Coral Blush
I’m on a coral kick, it’s true. I love a peachy, coral shade on my cheeks. It pairs so well with the coral lispticks or any of your standard berries and nudes. It also pairs well with the eye shadow options I have listed. - Vitamin C
A goal for 2016 was to find skincare that truly worked for my skin. So far, I have found some hits and misses, but I have found my skin LOVES Vitamin C. I love the entire Truth line from Ole Henrikson, specifically the Truth Serum which I use every morning before my moisturizer. - Color Correcting
As forementioned, I love coral and peach tones for the face, eyes, and lips this season; however, I have really pink-toned skin, so it can get to be kind of a splotchy red mess if I’m not careful. Color correcting isn’t a new thing by any means, but I’m just beginning to seriously dabble into it. I’ve been loving the results. I use a green concealer anywhere I tend to get red–around my nose, my chin, and my cheeks–and then apply my foundation on top. It evens out my skin tone and creates a nice canvas for orange toned makeup. - One-step Plum Shadow
Another thing I’ve been into is one-step smokey eyes, and for spring my color is purple. I like taking a fairly shimmery shade and applying it all over my lid, usually with my finger. It allows me to build up color in the areas I want while diffusing it at the same time. The overall look is smudgey yet still blended. And it takes less time than layering product after product.Lusting after: NARS Duel Inenstity Eyeshadow in ‘Pheobe,’ $29
- Pale Blue Shadow
And another lid color. Think Hitchcock’s ‘Birds.’ I’m loving a pale, mostly matte, blue shadow all over the lid with just a bit of a warm brown transition in the crease. I pair this with the coral blush and lipstick, and it’s a fresh makeup look for spring. - Gel SPF
I never skimp on the SPF. I’m very fair, and I feel like I only have to think of the sun and I will burn. However, most sunscreens for the face are very heavy and break me out. In a Birchbox a few months ago, I got a sample of a sunscreen from Coola and fell in love. It’s more of a gel formula than a lotion, and I didn’t notice any clogged pores or break outs. If you have acne prone or oily skin, try that out, or something like it.
