Bite Beauty, which has typically been known for their lip products, has just launched a new line of complexion products! The Changemaker launch included a foundation product, 2 face primers, a pressed powder, 2 reformulated Agave lip masks and a new line of matte lip colors. I recently picked up the foundation, one of the primers, and a lip product. And that’s what we’re going to review today.
the basics –
Bite’s claim to fame is their ingredients list — typically they’re ingredients have consisted of high quality or food grade ingredients and are labeled as clean, cruelty-free, and gluten-free.
The Bite Beauty foundation is $39.50 and comes in 32 shades. The shade range is decent with a variety of fair, light, medium, tan, and deep shades; however, it definitely is most saturated in the light to medium range. I picked up the shade L10 (light with cool undertones), though I feel I could have gotten along better with one just above it (L15).
It’s described as a clean, long-wearing foundation consisting of a gentle micellar technology that mimics skin texture. The liquid formula offers a medium coverage and a natural finish and is good for all skin types.
There is also a bit of fragrance in this product. I don’t find it overpowering – in fact, I don’t mind it at all. But a callout if you’re worried ab out or sensitive to that.
the packaging –
I love Bite’s packaging and branding. I think it’s sleek and modern and intriguing. The foundation is in a squeezy tube, which I love for foundation. It allows you to squeeze out every last bit of product. And the formula warrants this type of packaging well.
the formula –
The Bite Beauty foundation has a thicker liquid texture. It’s definitely not as thin and fluid as the Pat McGrath Sublime Perfection foundation, yet not as gel-like and bouncy as my beloved Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue – though that it what I have in my collection that is most comparable in texture.
While on the thicker side, I didn’t find the foundation was hard to blend on the face with either my fingers, a brush, or a complexion sponge.
Standout Ingredients:
- Macqui Berry: An antioxidant-rich ingredient that helps nurture the complexion
- Micellar Technology: Gently mimics skin texture for smooth, non-cakey application
the review –
the good:
While I typically opt for sheer to light coverage base products, I wanted to pick something up with a little more coverage since I’ve been breaking out more frequently after coming off the Pill. This foundation from Bite is definitely a medium coverage foundation that can be sheered out depending how it’s applied. You are able to build it up a little for more concentrated coverage, though I’d advise against applying too much because it can get a little cakey looking.
Another tick in the pro column for this foundation is that it is most definitely lightweight. While a little thick, the formula feels weightless on the skin, which I definitely appreciate.
the bad:
While I agree with the claims that this is a medium coverage with a natural finish, I think it’s tricky to get there. When applied with a brush, I felt that the foundation showed brush strokes and looked a little cakey in places. I noticed it bunched around my nose and any dry spots I had. When applied with a sponge, I definitely appreciated the finish more – it was a lot more luminous – however, you lost coverage.
My Goldie Locks way of applying this foundation was with a brush, mixed with a lightweight moisturizer. Why a moisturizer? That brings me to the biggest con for me.
No matter how I wear this – powder, no powder, with a brush, with a sponge – it looks dry. I find it sinks into every line (that I didn’t even know I had). As I’d go through the day, I’d notice it rubbing off from either me leaning on my hand or my glasses sitting on my face. Mixing with moisturizer helped a little in terms of keeping the dryness at bay, but I have other foundations that don’t require this extra step or use of product.
the bottom line –
Honestly, I’d pass.
I mean, it’s not bad. I’ll keep using it because I have it. But I definitely don’t foresee myself purchasing this again.
