Hello everyone. Long time, no chat. It’s been a little while. I just haven’t been feeling creative, and you’ve heard me say that a lot but it happens. And unfortunately I go through lulls a lot. But summer is here! And one of my favorite things about warmer weather is bright lipsticks. I have always been partial a bright, bold lip moment. Brighter lips instantly adds life back into your face and brightens up your face. So today I’m highlighting my favorite bright lipsticks for summer.
– My Favorite Coral Lipsticks –
Coral lipsticks, in my opinion, are the hardest brights to wear. And I only say that because they are the biggest culprits of making your teeth look a little yellow and bringing out a lot of the redness in your skin. However, I can’t help but love them, especially once you find a shade and formula that compliments your skin tone.
I have 2 favorite coral lipsticks of the moment. First up is my long time favorite NARS Niagra*. I love the NARS original lipstick formula — the color tends to be a little sheer, which makes application a breeze. Niagra* is pink based coral, and I’m currently on my 3rd tube! You can apply a light layer for a sheer wash of bright coral or you can build it up to be a little more opaque.
On the red-coral side of the spectrum is YSL’s Coral Aviator*, a deep red based coral. It’s part of their Volupte Shine collection*, which leans more medium coverage with a hydrating, balmy texture. Again, you can apply a very light layer or build it up. And the color is amazing–the perfect blend of red and salmon. I love pairing this one with ultra bronzed and golden skin.
– My Favorite Orange Lipsticks –
Orange is my absolute favorite bright lipstick color. It’s so vibrant in a very wearable and modern way, and I think it looks amazing with my coloring and hair.
I definitely have a preferred lip formula right now. And it’s that hydrating, balmy, no mirror required color. And that’s what I love about these L’Oreal Plump & Shine lipsticks*. The shade Nectarine Plump* is a pastel-ish buy not (?) peachy orange. My favorite way to wear this one is over a brown/brown based nude liner.
One of my absolute favorite lipstick product is the YSL Glossy Stains*, and my favorite shade of all is Orange de Chine*, which is just a true, glossy orange. It’s fabulous. The formula feels very oily in terms of weight; it’s very lightweight. And it kind of leaves behind a glossy stain once it begins wearing.
L’Oreal’s Rouge Signature Matte Lip Stain in I Achieve* … so good. This formula is amazingly lightweight, very much like the YSL glossy stain* I just mentioned, but matte. Honestly, it’s exactly like the YSL matte lip stains*. And the color is such a beautiful firey orange that is incredibly easy to wear. I love wearing this with olive/green/gold eyes and lots of bronzer.
– My Favorite Red Lipsticks –
One of my favorite stories from college is the one wear I came to class in a light pink lip, and one of my classmates commented, “You’re not in red lipstick. Weird.” Because it was. I always wore red lipstick. It makes me feel like such a sexy badass.
I haven’t been able to stop wearing Gucci’s Goldie Red* since I got it a few months ago. It’s such a beautiful true, blue based red. The formula is very similar to those Lisa Eldridge lipsticks or the MAC Powder Kiss lipsticks* — I think Colourpop has one. They’re a very powdery, velvety matte formula that mattifies on the lips but doesn’t really feel dry. It also has this powdery, velvet finish; it kind of looks blurred. It’s beautiful.
Another red I’ve been using nonstop is Watermelon Plump*, another from that L’Oreal line I love. Definitely a red, not quite a pink, not quite a coral; it’s an interesting and pretty color. And unlike the previous lipstick, it’s very balmy and hydrating and glossy. It’s definitely a no nonsense, no mirror required type of lip product, and I love the slightly tingly feeling it gives to your lips. It just looks so healthy on the face. It’s my go-to for the juciest red lips.
And maybe my favorite type of red lately is a good orange based red. I have a ton of these in my collection, but I’ve been biased to the bareMinerals lipstick in Saffron*. It borders a matte/satin formula, but its comfortable on the lips. It also applies so buttery smooth. It’s a beautiful formula and a beautiful color.
– My Favorite Pink Lipsticks –
Pink is such a flirty, fun color to wear on the lips, and the one I think most people are comfortable with when opting for a bright lipstick.
Another NARS Lipstick I love is Roman Holiday*, a sheer blue based light pink. Like I said previously about this formula, it’s lightweight and comfortable and is more sheer, so it’s easy to wear a simple wash of color or build it up for more intensity. But you almost can’t go overboard with it. And because these Barbie pinks can be intimidating, this is a really great option.
Juelp is a weird brand in the sense that you can’t really find it many places, and because of that most people haven’t tried it (or even heard about it). If you are familiar with the brand, it’s probably for the nail products, but when they had a subscription box, I became fairly familiar with their makeup. And they’ve got some really nice stuff. Their Matte Lip Mousses are some of my favorite liquid lipsticks. They’re this whipped texture that feel weightless on the lips but offer a strong color. Amore is a beautiful rose color. It literally looks like the roses I have along my house.
– My Favorite Purple Lipsticks –
As much as I love a pretty purple lip, I only have two products to talk about and I usually wear them together. I love how quirky and unexpected purple lipsticks can be, and they aren’t always “unwearable” or difficult to wear. Revlon’s Berry Haute* is this lilac-y berry color. It’s definitely a cool color, which are always a little more difficult than warmer tones, but the little bit of pink based berry behind it makes this effortless to wear. I love wearing Lancome’s Prismatic Plumping Lip Gloss (being discontinued) in Effervescent on top, which is a topper type of gloss with purple and pink shimmer throughout it. I’ve included a few other options I’ve found that are similar in the carousal below.
