I’m a little late to this review, but unless you get Colourpop PR, you’re always late to review. Because they come out with so stinkin’ much product! However, better late than never with the Colourpop Going Coconuts palette review, because I’m really into this one.
I think they started the 9-pan palette collections in 2018, and then the monochromatic collections began rolling out in 2019. And while there have definitely been more exciting collections to launch from Colourpop, this is one I jumped on. I’m not sure if it’s because it was a break in the crazy color or what, but this Going Coconuts palette spoke to me.
I also know I just posted a blog about refraining from buying from Colourpop, and any other brands, really. But if you remember, I said I didn’t want to purchase products I didn’t really want or didn’t think I’d use. This is one I know I will get loads of use from. And I ordered this before that post anyway.
So let’s break down the review and some swatches of Colourpop’s Going Coconuts Bronzed eye shadow palette, shall we?
The Basics:
If you’ve read any of my Colourpop 9-pan palette reviews, you can probably recite what I’m about to tell you:
The Going Coconuts palette retails for $12 and features 9 toasted, cool-toned shades. It’s also cruelty free.
The Shade Selection:
I can’t help it; I try to venture into color, but neutral eye shadow always creeps back into my heart. I know a lot of people are a little tired of neutral palettes, but I am still inspired by them. And I think the shades in this one make for a perfect everyday palette.
Going Coconuts features 4 matte or mostly matte shades, 2 satin shades, and 3 shimmers/metallic shades.
from left to right:
- Shredded – creamy vanilla w/ silver pinpoints
- Palm Reader – white w/ gold flip
- Coolada – cool taupe brown
- Lovely Bunch – mid tone yellow brown
- Coco Crush – icy pale champagne
- Shell ya – neutral ginger brown
- Get Crackin’ – cool brown / silver flecks
- Da Coco – icy bronze w/ violet pinpoints
- Nutty – deep umber
The Review:
Out of all of the 9-pan palettes I own from Colourpop, Going Coconuts is my favorite! I think the quality is there, and I feel there’s a good variety of tone, shade, and finish options in this little palette. The shadows are easy to blend out, and I don’t find any to be excessively patchy or difficult to work with. I also really enjoy that CP didn’t include a pressed glitter in this palette, like they have in the most recent 9-pan palettes.
The shades I find myself using the most are Coolada (usually in my crease) and Get Crackin’ (all over the lid).
While I really enjoy this palette, I did have a few minor complaints as well.
- I always find myself complain about Colourpop’s products being too warm toned. I like warm tones, and they are flattering on most skin tones, but sometimes I want something cooler. So I was excited for a cool toned neutral palette. However, I feel like this could have been even cooler.
They market this as a cool-toned palette; however, I feel like it leans more neutral to neutral-warm. - I really appreciated the lack of pressed glitters in this palette. My eyes are so sensitive, and loose glitter shadows really stress me out. But the glitter shades in here are a little chalky and crumbly. I wish they were just a little more metallic — though, using a wet brush helps create a more foiled effect!
The Bottom Line:
Yeah, I like this one a lot.
I think if you’re interested in a new neutral palette to be your go-to, you wouldn’t be disappointed by this one. I also think the Colourpop Going Coconuts palette be a great palette for a beginner!
