One of my goals for 2016 was to find a skincare regimen that worked for my skin. While, I feel it’s a work in progress, I have found some power players that I love. Some of these are products are fairly new, but I’ve found I enjoyed them immediately, and others are products that cause me to notice a difference when I don’t use them, that have been in my cabinet for a while.
- Boscia Makeup Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil
I was apprehensive about this at first, because when I first started using it, my skin was rather oily (it’s dry as the Sahara now, but that’s for another post). So oily girls, listen up. Use it anyway. As the name suggests, it’s a very cooling oil that I use to remove my makeup and prep for my second cleanse. Unlike other types of makeup remover, it doesn’t leave an oily film on your face or make your skin feel dry. - Philosophy Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser
When it comes to my morning cleanser, I’m not too picky. However, I use nothing but this product at night as my second cleanse, after I’ve removed my makeup. It’s so gentle and removes any leftover residue or makeup, and leaves my skin feeling smooth, soft, and clean without stripping my skin of moisture. - Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder
My skin generally isn’t sensitive, but when it comes to exfoliates, I notice a lot of tiny bumps and uneven texture around my chin. This water activated powder exfoliate is so gentle on my skin that I can use it multiple times a week, and it leaves my skin feeling incredibly smooth. You’ll sprinkle a small amount into your dry palm, and then add a small amount of water. When you begin to mix the water and product together, it turns into a foam, and it’s barely noticeable but effective on your skin. - SK-II Facial Treatment Essence
I wanted to try this for the longest time, and then I received a deluxe sample in an Allure Beauty Box. I was excited, but I also kind of didn’t want to try it, because it’s so expensive. And I love it. I’m holding onto every last drop of this sample but will probably pay for the full-size because it’s amazing. This is a facial essence, which isn’t completely necessary in your skincare routine, that I use after I cleanse/exfoliate and before serum. It smells lovely and once it dries into my skin, makes my skin look bright and healthy and feel great. - Ole Henriksen Truth Serum
I’ve mentioned before, my skin skin loves vitamin C. It brings extra life and perks up my skin. I use this as my morning serum, and definitely notice a difference when I skip this step. It smells like oranges and, a common theme in my skincare products, makes my skin feel soft and smooth. This is a deluxe sample size I got in a travel kit at Sephora, but I constantly purchase the full size bottle. - Ole Henriksen Truth Glow Polishing Mask
This is part of the same range as the Truth Serum, and is a new product to my arsenal. I love face masks. I love how they make my skin feel and how luxurious and spa-like they make me feel. It’s a gentle exfoliating mask and smells, again, like oranges. You’ll spread a thin layer onto your skin, leave it for a few minutes, and then rub it in using circular movements before you rinse it off. When you’re done, your skin is bright, soft, and smooth. This was also part of the Sephora travel kit, but I think I will be purchasing the full sized product soon. - Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask
Yet another travel sized sample that I love. I used this once a while ago and wasn’t super into it, but I tried it again when it came in the travel kit, and I actually like it a lot. I like to use this mask after I use a harsh mask like an exfoliating or clay product. It replenishes the moisture the other products may remove from my face, and it helps with any redness as well. It’s very cooling and a nice pick-me-up. - Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm
I accidentally bought this. I thought I was buying an eye cream, but wasn’t paying enough attention. So I tried it thinking I wasn’t going to like it, and it wasn’t what I wanted, but I do really enjoy it. I don’t sleep a lot and I cry a lot (I can’t do TV without crying, guys), so my eyes get puffy from time to time. I use this on those mornings, and it’s so cooling on the skin and helps with the puffiness. It’s thick, but it’s not thick enough I can’t use it in the mornings under makeup. I use it after my serums but before my moisturizer. - Clinique Moisture Surge
I was recently in need of a new moisturizer because my skin went from oily to dry in the span of a few weeks. I picked this up thinking it’s going to be good with my dry skin, but since it’s a gel, it won’t be too heavy if my skin goes oily again. I love this. My skin feels incredibly smooth after using this, and I love how bright my skin looks, too.
