Another summer has come and gone. And while a lot of people in Morgantown are currently taking to Twitter to complain about the chilly temps. and rainy weather, I’m low-key loving it. Because it means fall is finally here! I can bundle up in my cozy sweaters, sip my Maple Pecan latte (no pumpkin spice for this girl), and finally live in a world of colors that compliment my skin tone.
While I reveled in the easy breezy makeup routines of summer, I can always stand beside fall’s rich makeup color palettes–the warm browns, coppers, and plums. But when going through my collection to pick out a few products for this post, I realized I’m feeling some different colors from last year. Last fall, I was all about the dark plum lip shades, matte brown on the eyes, and a matte face. But my makeup vibe is totally different this year.
Today, I’m only talking about eye and lip colors I’m loving for fall 2018, because I have a few posts in coming weeks about face products. But keep reading for the fall makeup colors you’ll be seeing from me all season.
The Eyes:
The vibe:
Last year, I was obsessed with matte eye looks. I added very little shimmer to my eye looks, and even used matte shades as highlighting colors for my eyes. This year, I’ve taken a complete 180 and am gravitating toward shimmer and metallic shadows instead. For the past few weeks, my go-to eye looks have been blending one opaque and shimmery shade all over the eye and into the crease as well as blending beneath the eye. Using one shadow is super fast, but you can add more or less to create a ton of depth without using a lot of different product. A lot of the shadows pictured above are perfect for that technique, which is why they are favorites for the season. I think one shadow looks provide such a sultry vibe to the eye and can be pretty and subtle or deep and smokey.
The colors:
I know I said I’m attracted to different colors than last year, but let’s be honest, I’m still a basic bitch at heart. So there are still a ton of warm tones and browns in my little favorites pack. I love a good orangey/red brown for the crease or all over the eye. But more than I have all year, I’m reaching for a deep brown to really add definition and depth to the outer corners of my eyes and through the crease. Reds and dark pinks are always in. Coppers are a fall staple, I think. So there are various shades of copper shimmers I can use on the lid, inner corners, or all over. And of course, I included a pretty golden shimmer for inner corner highlighting or for a soft wash of a little extra something something.
The more interesting shades are purples and greens. But not dark purples and greens–chartreuse and lilac shades. I am obsessed with the pop! We always want to go deep and dark with fall makeup, but I like the freshness and brightness of these green and purple shades.

The Lips:
My preferences for lip products have drastically changed from last fall. Everything from the formulas to the finishes to the colors have shifted. Last year, I heavily drifted to classic dark plums like ‘Black Cherry’ from Revlon. I craved those deep colors. But something changed in 2018, and I’m a lot more interested in nudes. They’re not fussy, and I think that’s why I’ve liked them. I prefer a brown based nude as opposed to peach based nudes; they look better on my skintone and let me live out my ’90s girl dream.
In addition to nude shades, I’m also really obsessed with oranges and orange based reds. They match with the purple eye looks I’ve been liking and, of course, any of the warm brown eye looks. Deep reds will always be an in for me, but this year I prefer a more brick red (again, it’s that brown obsession).
Something else that’s different from last year is the formula I’m finding most popular from my collection. I was all about matte liquid lipsticks last year (as was most everyone), but I definitely am embracing glossy lips as of late! I’ll always love a good matte, but there’s just something about a juicy gloss or cream lipstick I’m going crazy over.
