Guys, there is a lot happening right now in my unkempt, chaotic mind. Some of it good and creative and uplifting — some of it is sad and negative and debilitating, and that I don’t want to talk about. What I do want to talk about is that I’ve been spending way too much money on makeup. So we’re going on a beauty no buy.
The Beauty No Buy Guidelines (The What)
Truthfully, this beauty no buy isn’t a grand revelation for me. It’s not even a new thing for me. I usually do these for about 3-4 months at the beginning of the year, after all of my holiday sale shopping has subsided. But I didn’t do that for some reason this year. And that’s ok.
But alas, here we are. And I want to clarify what a beauty no buy looks like for me. I suppose I should probably call it a beauty low buy, as I don’t force myself to spend zero dollars on beauty products. So here are my “OKs:”
- OK: Allure Beauty Box. I prepay for this. It’s also a reoccurring series on the blog that I really enjoy doing. But mainly because I have already paid for it.
- OK: Necessities + other genuine empties. I’m not someone who buys beauty back ups. I don’t have a back up of every product I own; however, I do tend to have multiple items within each beauty category, so I don’t foresee myself genuinely running out of anything. But in the event I do, I will allow myself that repurchase.
The products I typically wind up repurchasing are things like toothpaste, deodorant, and bath products like bubble bath and body lotion, which I use every day.
And other than those special circumstance purchases, that’s it. No new beauty products are coming into my collection until probably holiday season?
Actually I did place a SEPHORA order 2 weeks ago that has yet to arrive, with a few items I plan on reviewing. But other than that and any PR packages I may receive in the meantime, there won’t be any new products purchased/featured.
Motivations (The Why)
I would love to say my main motivations for this beauty no buy were noble ones like committing to anti-consumerism or doing my part to live sustainably and help the planet. But the honest truth is I’m just spending too much money on makeup and want to buy other things.
I know most people go on no buys for all sorts of reasons and most of them have to do with cutting costs, saving money, and any of the reasons I mentioned above. But I just, simply, need to cool it.
In the Meantime…
While my motivation is simply a selfish one, there is still some beneficial things to come from a beauty creator going on a beauty no buy.
I hope to:
- Be a better creator. I’ll be forced to look into my current collection and use that to create content on the blog and other social channels. I hope to create more looks and routine posts both here and on Instagram.
- Review more permanent products from brands’ permanent lines and long-time favorites. I buy these new items for reviews and photos. And by the time I get around to posting them, there’s already something shiner, newer, and limited edition! I want to love what I have and use what I love, but being hyper-focused on the NEW isn’t helping me achieve that.
- Hone in my current makeup preferences.
- And finally, save a little money. Like I said, I’m going on a beauty no buy, not a life no buy. But you never know.
Feel similarly? Challenge yourself to a beauty no buy. I’ll be right there with ya!
