Something about ringing in the new year makes me think about glitter. I don’t want it is, but I think glitter blazers, glitter pants, glitter decor, and glitter makeup.
This year, my boyfriend, Isaac, and I are playing it really low-key for holiday. We’re heading to Target, picking out a new board game to play, maybe sifting through the bargain movies for something different and surprising, and enjoying a relaxing dinner and evening at home with each other’s company. But regardless of what your plans are, these few ways of incorporating glitter into your makeup will be sure to brighten your night.
On the lips:
I think most people would automatically assume you’d apply the glitter touch to your eyes, and you definitely can, we’ll get to that in a second. However, my focus immediately shifted toward the lips.
Begin by exfoliating to soften and smooth the appearance of you lips–you want the color and glitter to be the focus, not cracks and dips. Then apply your favorite balm to lock in moisture and keep the color from cracking. Next, you’ll want to apply your favorite red lipstick as you usually would. Once that’s applied, tap a small amount of lip balm to the lips to create a tacky layer to hold the glitter. And lastly, tap the glitter on with either a brush or your finger.
On the eyes ( 3 ways):
Way 1: Glitter Liner
I like this look, because it’s so simple and usually so subtle you only really see if when you blink.
I’d personally start with a pretty simple eye, a little light brown transition shade in the crease and some shimmery flesh toned shadow on the lid, but do your eye makeup as you’d please. Next, apply your black winged liner as usual. Top it off by using a small, thin brush dipped in water to apply the glitter just over top the black. I could see a variety of colors being applied here. A few of my favorites would be black glitter, gold, or an olive colored glitter.
Way 2: Glitter on the Lower Lash Line
Much like adding a glitter liner to your top lashes, adding it to the bottom could be something subtle but fun. Again, I’d probably opt for a really simple, almost bare eye, but you can wear whatever eye look you’d like. Instead of like the previous glitter liner, skip out on the black liquid. Just go in on the lower lash line with a soft silver or gold glitter, whatever you think you look best in. And load up on the mascara!
Way 3: Inner Corner
Another really easy but effective way to incorporate glitter into your eye look. Instead of applying a soft highlight shade to the inner corner of your eyes, go a little bolder and apply a glitter. It’s as simple as that. You can even use it to add a pop of color to your makeup look.
On the face:
A great highlighter like this or this will do wonders on your cheekbones for the holiday, but if you really want to take it up a notch, try, you guessed it, adding some glitter. Apply your favorite highlight as per usual to the tops of your cheeks. Then go in with a tacky primer that will leave a sticky layer for the glitter to stick, like we did with the lips, and pat on the glitter.
If you could guess it, I’d probably don a pretty simple eye look with some black winged liner, deep purple/berry lip like this and a strong brow.
