In the world of beauty consumerism, you always hear hype about new beauty launches. A brand can’t launch a new product without an explosion of hype of Youtube, on Instagram, and on beauty blogs. But sometimes it feels like we obsess over the new, and then forget those products when they aren’t new anymore.
As I was de-cluttering recently, I noticed how many products I owned because I fell into the Internet hype (a lot of products). But, even so, I still use and love most of them. I probably purchased most of them due to influencers raving about them, but now I don’t hear many people, if any, make mention of them anymore. So today I rounded up a handful of hyped products that I still use and love.
Benefit Gimme Brow
I 100% purchased this product solely on Youtube recommendations. It’s the first brow product I actually purchased, and I honestly still adore it. It’s one of those tinted brow gels that contain microfibers that adhere to your brow hairs, making them appear thicker and fuller in a natural way.
Benefit recently went through a re-packaging and re-branding on all of their brow products, but I still find I like the formula. I’ve tried other products similar to this, like the Glossier Boy Brow and Essence Make Me Brow, and I still always come back to the Gimme Brow.
My shade: #2 or #3, whichever I’m feeling that day.
Milk Makeup Blur Stick
This is something I was extremely skeptical about when I first started hearing about it. I’ve never particularly been into foundation primers, until recently, so I didn’t think this would make a big difference. Nevertheless, I continuously saw Youtube and blog reviews on this products, and it peaked my intrigue. I didn’t actually purchase it right away, but I did get it as a Sephora point perk. And boy, oh boy. I’m glad I did.
This is an interesting primer, because it’s in a solid stick form, as opposed to a liquid. It’s going to blur the appearance of pores and create a matte finish on any skin tone. I run this over my skin–focusing around my nose, forehead, and chin, where my pores are most noticeable– and then pat it in lightly with my fingers. It makes your skin feel silky smooth, though it is silicone-free. On days I don’t want to wear any makeup, but I want something to help even out my skin tone, I’ll use this on it’s own. It keeps oil at bay and provides an even finish I love.
Colourpop Super Shock Shadows
Because these were Coloupop’s pilot product, you can imagine the immense hype it got. I remember hearing about Colourpop first from Kathleen Lights on Youtube, and after I made my first order was hooked. By now, I’m sure everyone has had a go with the Super Shock Shadows, but if you haven’t: the formula is a spongy feeling creme-powder. It has a bouncy texture and really delivers bold, long-lasting color.
After trying a little bit of everything, I definitely prefer the metallic and glitter Super Shock Shadows. The mattes are nice, but I find the metallics to be easier and pack more of a punch. Oftentimes, I apply these with my fingers, sometimes blend them out with a brush, and sometimes apply them with a brush when I want a more subtle wash of color.
And they are so inexpensive! You can now get these at Ulta and Sephora as well as Colourpop’s site. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
My most used colors: Telepathy, Sequin, Glow.

Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation
While I still hear some beauty influencers speak of the Vanish Stick foundation from Hourglass, I don’t hear nearly as many as I did when it was first released. You literally couldn’t watch a Get Ready With Me, new makeup haul, or favorites video without seeing this foundation mentioned. I mean, for good reason. I think it’s fantastic.
When applied with a brush, I find this gives a pretty full level of coverage, but I tend to apply it with a beauty sponge so I get a lighter coverage. I find it to be weightless on the skin, and comfortable throughout the day. And the finish is flawless. This is the foundation I grab for when I want my skin to look good but am in a hurry or don’t want to fret throughout the day.
My shade: Blanc
Becca Backlight Priming Filter
I remember a while ago, all of the major Youtubers raved about this illuminating face primer. I love it patted along the high points of my face for a natural highlight or all over my face for a lived in glow.
In it’s defense, Becca has fairly recently brought out a First Light Priming Filter, which has stolen it’s hyped thunder. It’s very similar to this, but is purple in tone, which would make it good for evening skin tone. I hear people talking about this constantly. I’ve not tried that version yet, so maybe I’d prefer it over the original. But for now, I’m still loving and using the original Backlight Priming Filter.
I recently finished this product and tossed it, forgetting I hadn’t taken photos for this post.
