In the past, my fall lipstick picks have lingered in the deep, vampy berry variety. I have been a super slut for Revlon’s Black Cherry. But this year has, interestingly, been a little different. I’ve noticed I’m venturing more into the brown/nude/red spice territory. So today I’m bringing you the fall lipstick shades I’ve been reaching for lately.
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in ‘Fig’
As I said previously, I used to crave a vampy, deep berry lipstick for fall, but this year I’ve wanted something a little less intense. I love ‘Fig’ from Smashbox. It’s described as a red grape cream, and I think that’s a perfect description. It’s not red but it’s not quite plum either. And the formula of the Be Legendary lipsticks is one of my favorites. They’re very pigmented, but they’re creamy and feels smooth on the lips.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in ‘Chai’
I’ve spoken about the Amuse Bouche lipsticks from Bite a lot in the past, and for good reason. The formula is soft, moisturizing, and creamy while delivering bold and nourishing color. I also love that the lipsticks are made with food grade ingredients. ‘Chai’ is a mauve brown and matches almost every look. It’s the prefect red toned brown.
bareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lipstick in ‘BO$$’
While I don’t get on with most liquid lipsticks, the Gen Nude line from bareMinerals is one of my favorites. It’s a matte liquid lip and offers the full-coverage you’d expect, but it’s still fairly hydrating and comfortable. ‘BO$$’ is described as a dirty pink beige, and I love it for fall. On my light skin tone it definitely pulls more brown than pink, but because of the pink in it, it doesn’t look harsh. Like ‘Chai’ from Bite, it goes with almost any look I’ve been wearing over the past few weeks.
Colourpop Lippie Stix in ‘Taurus’
One of my favorite lipsticks of all time is ‘Taurus’ from Colourpop. This Colourpop Lippie Stick is full-coverage and matte but comfortable and non-drying. ‘Taurus’ is mid-toned yellow brown, and I love to wear it paired with purple shadows.
Colourpop Lux Lipstick in ‘Foolish’
Another Colourpop favorite of mine is ‘Foolish,’ part of their Lux Lipstick line. The Lux Lipstick formula is a little more drying than some of the others on this list, but it’s still a wearable formula. It lasts for a long time and offers opaque color pay off. But I don’t like to wear it too many days in a row. ‘Foolish’ is such a beautiful deepened orange shade that screams fall to me. When in doubt, I tend to grab it and it completes almost every look.
Colourpop ’21 Questions’
I’m a red lipstick gal, and I always have been. When I’ve been wanting a red this fall season, I’ve been reaching for ’21 Questions’ from Colourpop. It’s a burnt orange toned red, so it’s not super bright but it’s just as statement making as you’d think a red would be. And the Blur Lux Lipstick formula is an interesting one. While pigmented, the finish is soft, almost blurred, and looks beautiful.
Bobbi Brown Lipstick in ‘Brownie’
This lipstick is what propelled me into the brown lipstick trend, which is ironic because I’d hardly call it a brown. These lipsticks from Bobbi Brown were actually the first product launch from the brand and is a semi-matte formula. It’s comfortable and creamy and is a no nonsense product. It won’t let you down. ‘Brownie,’ while the name suggests brown, is a pinky brown that leans more spicy pink, in my opinion. It definitely doesn’t look pink by any means, but is a rosewood situation. I think this shade is great for days you don’t want to wear a ton of makeup or if you’re someone who doesn’t like intensely pigmented lipsticks.
