Makeup is my thing. You know, the thing that has you giddy? The thing that compels you to walk into the store when you intended to walk right past? Among very few other things (including thrift stores and my adorable BF), makeup is mine. It isn’t only something I use every day. It’s something I enjoy every day. I love it so much I started a blog about it! And I don’t ever see that love fading. But we’re doing a project pan in 2019.
I’ve started to become more conscious of myself as a consumer. You’ll probably still find me lusting after the latest releases. I’ll probably continue to buy some products I don’t get around to finishing up. But I’m trying really hard to use the products I have in my collection. On the same note, I’m trying to be smart about purchases I do have coming into my space.
One of my goals for the year is to start playing with makeup again. As much as I love it, I often find myself reaching for the same products every day and not playing or creating. I’m just doing and going on with my day. I want to experiment again, to use color, and reignite the flame that made it fun.
To get me motivated for this, I’ve decide to try a project pan situation. There is a whole community of Youtubers dedicated to panning, but I’ll explain it briefly. Essentially the idea is you select a certain amount of products to finish (or hit pan on) in a certain amount of time. It’s a challenge, and I love a challenge.
The purpose of this project pan is to finish off products that are almost expired and pay attention to products I’ve neglected. Most of these only have a brief time left, and I want to use them up before I have to throw them away. Even though the concept of panning is to use products in their entirety, that’s not how I’m going into this. I’ll be over the moon if I can finish all of these, but I mainly just want to make a point to use them more. In the 2019 spirit, I selected 9 products to pan before the end of the year.
1 | Marc Jacobs Glambition Palette
Nothing like big ambitions for my first project pan. This is one of my favorite eye shadow palettes for everyday. The formula is great — it is pigmented but not too pigmented, blends easily without looking muddy, and complements other palettes nicely.
Because I have so many palettes with similar neutrals, this little guy hasn’t been getting the love he deserves. So I want to make sure I’m reaching for him more in 2019. My goal at the end of the year is to hit pan on at least one of the shadows, which I don’t think will be too difficult because I have a pretty intense dent in ‘Infamous’ (the 2nd shade from the left).
2 | Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in ‘Moonstone’
I believe these were discontinued, which upsets me because I quite like this highlighter. The poured highlighters are creamier than the normal Becca highlighters but not as fluid as the liquid. It’s a formula I really enjoy; it never looks too intense but gives a candlelit glow. ‘Moonstone‘ is a pale gold and a great gold shade for my pale skin.
I don’t think I’ll finish this up fully, but I do think I’ll make a pretty big dent in it, especially once summer rolls around.
3 | Coty Airspun Loose Powder
Goodness! This powder and me have a tense relationship these days. Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a great powder. It sets my makeup wonderfully and is a great product for baking. It’s also inexpensive, and you get a ton of product. I’ve had this forever, and I want it to be gone … but it just doesn’t end. I’m laughing as I type this–I love the powder, but I want to try something else. Here’s to hoping the bottomless powder gets used up this year. (No promises because it’s magic, I think.)
4 | Colourpop Brow Colour in ‘Dope Taupe‘
Those of you who have been around a while know I’m a brow gel gal — Benefit Gimme Brow is my jam. But when Colourpop released their initial brow products, I was intrigued by the pomade. And I bought it, thinking I’d use it when I wanted carved out brows (literally never). Needless to say, I have a ton of this.
Let’s see how much I can actually use in a year.
5 | Fiona Stiles Matte Finish Foundation
I have so many frickin’ foundations opened right now. It’s necessary that I make a point to finish a few of them up this year. This Fiona Stiles foundation is one of my absolute favorites. It’s a natural matte finish and isn’t too heavy on the skin. I like it best applied with my beauty sponge, and it’s pretty much a spot on color match for me.
6 | Clinique Super City Block
This might be cheating, but I only have about half of this left. I know I’ll be able to use it up before the year ends. It’s not my favorite SPF product for the face, but I have it on hand. So I’m going to use it before I purchase another facial sunscreen.
7 | Elf Multi-Stick in Sparkling Rose
If you read my post about products I was introducing for fall, this won’t be a new product. I saw I wanted to try these multi-sticks from Elf, so I kind of feel bad including this in a project pan so soon. Honestly, I just want to be reminded to use it. It’s a pretty rose color that looks pretty on the cheeks and subtle on the eyes.
8 | Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Sequin‘
Ah, one of my OG Colourpop products. Does anyone else remember when they only had Super Shock Shadows? This is one that’s drying up on me. It’s starting to feel a little dry, and I notice a little glitter fall out when putting it on the eyes.
I’m going to use this one until it just doesn’t work for me anymore–which I know will be in a few months.
9 | Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
I’ve got quite a few weird quirks. I hum all of the time, need my pillows arranged in a very specific way, and for some reason have a hard time using expensive skincare.
Let’s focus on that last one for a second. I don’t know what it is, but I have a hard time allowing myself to use my pricey skincare products, especially masks. It’s sort of like your grama’s ‘good’ China — it’s for special occasions. But if you know me, one of my rules of life is to not save special occasion products for special occasions. I’m not sure what my deal with this is, but if I’m not using it up, I’m 100% losing money.
I need to get through this Glow Recipe mask this year before it expires. I love it. Not only does it smell like watermelon Jolly Ranchers in the best way possible, it’s moisturizing without being too thick and is effective. When I wear this as a sleeping mask overnight, my skin wakes up plump, bright, and hydrated.
I can’t decide if I want to post quarterly updates or post one update at the end of the year. Let me know if you have a preference. Are you participating in a project pan for the new year? Let me know about that, too!
