Yesterday, we talked about how to read a wedding dress code. Today, I have put together a look that I would choose for each description. You will probably notice a color and style trend, but these are my picks, after all. (:
White Tie
If attending a white tie wedding, you best bet your bottom dollar it’s going to a classy, sophisticated, and proper affair. You shouldn’t wear anything too flashy, bold, or revealing. I loved this short sleeve black number because of how elegant it looked. I’d pair it with simple gold jewelry, a textured clutch, and simple black heels. Unfortunately for your wallet, you’ll probably have to dish out a pretty penny for a dress appropriate for an event as this, but as someone who knows no one who would host an event this fancy, you probably will have other situations to wear it.
Black Tie
Black tie dress codes give you a little more wiggle room for color and flare. I loved this Jill Stuart color blocked dress. It looks like something you’d see Emma Stone wear on the red carpet. I’d pair it with nude shoes and pretty jewelry. I liked the girly touch the bow on the bangle added, and the geometric chandelier earrings added something extra also.
Black Tie Optional
When the dress code reads ‘black tie optional,’ that your signifier you can start wearing pants if you choose. I love the look of a ultra fitted tuxedo for women. It’s classy, unexpected, and is a little more comfortable if you’re a woman who doesn’t like dresses. And Carrie wore a tuxedo to Stanford’s wedding, and I just loved that look. I’d pair mine with simple pearl studs and a bright lip, in my usual style.
Semi-formal
For something semi-formal, I’d opt for a longer gown with little to no jewels or bling. I usually like to avoid the sequins, glitter, and a sparkle, so this works well for me. I love the summery punch of orange in this dress, and decided I’d follow suit in accessories. I’d wear a playful shoe; I love these watercolor heels. And since I love the orange and blue color palette recently, I’d pair a soft blue bracelet and earrings and a soft coral lipstick, like ‘Niagra’ from NARS.
Beach Formal
When you hear ‘beach formal,’ it almost sounds a little like an oxymoron. You’re usually ultra casual at the beach, so how do you make it formal? Just remember, it’s not as formal as what a black tie outfit would be. Just wear a nice dress and comfortable shoes. I’d wear a flowy, floral dress with either a wedged sandal or something with a small block heel (or sandals, let’s be honest).
Dressy Casual
I mentioned yesterday I have a wedding to attend, and this is the dress code I will be following. This is actually the dress I bought as well. I tend to pair it with nude heels with an ankle strap, my go to wedding shoe and simple gold jewelry. It’s going to be outside and warm, so I don’t want to fuss with too much jewelry. If I had them, though, I’d go all out with red earrings.
Casual
Again, pretty much anything goes for a casual wedding. I’d opt for a jumpsuit, I think. I’d probably also play up the accessories. I think this ice cream truck clutch from Kate Spade is so cute, and would serve as a great conversation starter if you’re seated with strangers at the reception.
