Looking at my makeup collection, it’s hard to imagine it could possibly be lacking anything! I buy a lot of makeup, but even so, I have found myself reaching for products I just don’t have in my collection. Today we’re talking about the handful of products I feel my makeup collection is missing.
1 | matte, powder blue eye shadow
If you’ve seen The Birds, I want the eye shadow Tippi Hendren is wearing in that film — eerily specific, I know. I’ve been looking for this shadow since I watched a Lisa Eldridge tutorial IN 2013! She had used an Illamasqua shadow that has since been discontinued, so I’m trying my best to find an equivalent.
One of my favorite eye shadow looks recently is sweeping a muted color all over the lid for a very simple, fast, and monochromatic eye look. And I think this pop of blue will be the perfect addition to my single shadow collection.
2 | full coverage foundation
My makeup preferences have drastically changed over the years, and even in the past year. Base products have been a category heavily affected. My 10th grade self would be appalled if she saw how dewy and glowy my skin looked on a day to day basis. And since my preferences have changed, my coverage level has changed as well.
A couple of years ago, I was all about matte, full coverage foundations. Now my go-to is a natural/dewy, light coverage foundation. I’m also a big fan of a solid tinted moisturizer. But my skin is finicky, and I’ve been getting more breakouts than usual recently. But I don’t have any base products that have enough coverage to cover them! I definitely need to get a fuller coverage foundation, so be sure to leave me your favorites below!
3 | brown liquid eye liner
Technically I have a brown liquid liner in my collection, but I don’t like it. So I’m on the hunt for a new one.
I’ve actually gone a long time without wearing eye liner, especially liquid liner. But from time to time, I like to do a wing or add a ton of definition to my lash line with a liquid. However, I’m not a huge black liner gal these days, instead I’ve much preferred browns. But I don’t have a brown liquid I like.
I’ve used Bobbi Brown liners in the past and have liked them, so I may give those a go again. Again, if you have any recommendations, let me know (;
4 | glowy bronzer
Bronzer is another category that’s a bit newer to my routine and collection. I was heavily into contouring a few years ago when it was really big in the beauty community, then I got away from it completely and only wanted to wear brush. Now, I want to be as close to a bronzed goddess as a chalk white gal can be! However, now that the weather is warmer, I want to be glistening and bronzed. Enter a glowy bronzer…
…which is something I don’t have. A week or so ago, Cover FX announced a blush/bronzer/shimmer duo launch, and I was hella excited! I’ve been eyeing the lighter bronzer duo, because it looks like one side is a matte bronzer, but the other is full of shimmery goodness.
5 | setting spray
Maybe I should have titled this “New to My Routine,” but another product category that’s new to my daily routine is makeup setting spray. I recently purchased the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist, but that’s not a product intended to make your makeup last. I’ve used Mac Fix + in the past as a setting spray, and I do like that product. But I’m open to trying something new.
6 | cream face products
I’ve never ventured into the realm of cream face products, but I want to. Since my makeup style is evolving into something a little more natural, everyday, glowy, and more worn in, I think going in the direction of creams will be a good direction to head into.
I also love the look of those makeup tutorials where the blush, bronzer, highlight, and concealer is applied underneath foundation. But I can’t do that without cream products.
I’m on the hunt for cream blushes, bronzers, and highlighters.
7 | acne treatment
Technically this isn’t a makeup item, but I still feel like it’s something my beauty collection is missing.
Like I said previously, I have been noticing more breakouts than usual. I don’t know what my skin’s deal is. I’m not sure if it’s the shift in weather, if I’m using a new product my skin isn’t getting along with, or if it’s simply just a hormonal shift in the works, but I’m not into it.
I’ve never really struggled with acne in the past and haven’t had to treat it, so I’m not sure where to start. I’m thinking the Kate Somerville Eradicate treatment thing?
There you have it, 7 products my makeup collection is missing! Is there anything you feel your collection is missing?

I’ve been loving the Glossier cloud paints for blush. They are a liquidy consistency and blend like a dream!

I’ve had my eye on those! Do you have a favorite shade?
