One of my goals for 2019 was to start having fun with makeup again. I wanted to play with color, finishes, and start viewing it as something fun rather than just something else to do in a day. But more than rediscovering my love for makeup, I just wanted to use all of the crap I had. So I decided to embark in a project pan.
There’s a whole community of “panners” whose content surrounds using products in their entirety. And I love that. No one wants to spend money on something they end up throwing away. But my intention at the beginning of the year wasn’t necessarily to finish these products by the end of the year. That would be a bonus. But instead, I just wanted to remember them.
I have so many products that wind up going bad before I get to use them, and I wanted to remind myself to play around with these nine products. So how did I do in my first project pan?
Project Pan Update #1 | Did I Hit Pan?
Yay, We Did It!
Marc Jacobs Glambition Eye Palette: This is still one of my favorite neutral palettes. It has everything you need for an everyday, wearable eye look. I did manage to hit pan in one of the pans, which was my goal. In my original post, I said I thought I’d hit pan in ‘Infamous,’ the second from the left, and that’s exactly what happened.
That peachy toned shade is perfect on my skin tone to throw in the crease on minimal makeup days or all over the lid to just add a slight wash of color.
Coty Airspun Loose Powder: HALLELUJAH! I never thought I’d finish this powder. But I finally managed around August. Since finishing it, I’ve turned to my other trusted favorite, Maybelline Fit Me, and the Translucent Setting Powder from Laura Mercier.
Clinique Super City Block: This got finished fast. Like I said in the original post, it’s not my favorite SPF. I used it and quickly repurchased the Coola Mineral Silk Creme SPF.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask: I was so happy to use this mask up. I have a bad habit of buying pricey masks and then never wanting to use them. But I used this, loved it, but don’t think I’ll purchase again.
Well, We Tried!
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in ‘Moonstone:’ Ok, I didn’t not hit pan on this, but you guys . . . I tried! I wanted to include this in a panning project, because it got discontinued, and while I love it, I didn’t want to blog about too much since it’s harder and harder to get. But this refuses to finish. So, I’m still working on this one.
Colourpop Brow Colour in ‘Dope Taupe:’ When I included this is my original project pan, I never intended on finishing it. More so, I just wanted to use it. And I did.
I used it a little on the brows, when I wanted something bolder than a tinted gel. I also used this to emphasize freckles that got covered by foundation in the summertime and as an eyeliner when I didn’t have one.
Fiona Stiles Matte Finish Foundation: Oooh; I bought a lot of foundation in 2019. I’ve been really intrigued by base products lately. And unfortunately I didn’t make a huge dent in this. I found myself reaching fro my Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue moisturizer (are we surprised?) and the Pat McGrath foundation that came out this year instead.
Elf Multi-Stick in ‘Sparkling Rose:’ Yikes. I didn’t use this once in 2019. I think it’s time to declutter.
Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in ‘Sequin:’ I tried to use this, but I couldn’t. If you’re familiar with the Super Shock products from Colourpop, they just dry out. And once they do, they really lose their pigment and don’t perform as well as before. I just found it crumbled and creased, and the glitter fallout was crazy at the end.
Project Pan Update #2 | Am I Doing This Again?
So. I’d say I was successful. I didn’t pan or use up every product I mentioned, but I did use them and try to incorporate them back into my routine. With that said, though, I don’t think I’ll be doing another project pan in 2020.
I like the concept. But I also know myself. And I don’t like the added pressure I’m putting on myself to use products. It takes a little of the fun out of the whole beauty experience for me.
However, I did find myself making a point to use a lot more of products and more consistently, unafraid of them being used up. Because honestly, if I let them go bad, I’m wasting money. If I’m using it up, it seems worth it. And if I still want it when it’s gone, then it’s a favorite, and I’m still happy.
