You know, Fitzgerald was onto something when he told us life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall, and I’m a fall girl at heart. But I’m really feeling into the breeziness and intrigue of spring this year. I’m not sure why–maybe it’s a sign something good will happen in the spring. But I digress.
My point is I’m finding myself gravitating toward lighter and brighter color palettes than normal, in everything–my makeup, clothing, even in my house. I may not wear bright green pants or yellow eye shadow every day, but a bright pink lip can go a long way. Keep reading to see my colorful spring must-haves in beauty.
The Fuschia Lip
I used to be, strictly, a red lip kind of gal. Quick story time: during college, I walked into class wearing a lighter pink lipstick, and someone said, “Wow, you’re not wearing red.” I mean, strictly a red lip girl. But recently, I’ve really been liking a statement making pink. It’s fresh, and I think it instantly livens up your face. I’ve been wearing it with minimal eye makeup and dewy skin, so my lips really pop.
The Colorful Liner
There is something classic about a black or brown liner, but I love incorporating color into a liner look. Sometimes I like to almost use it as an eye shadow; I’ll apply a line to my lash line and smudge it out for a blown out wash of color. Other times I will draw a wing with black liner and then make a smaller wing on top with a colored liquid. It’s a fun pop to a makeup look.
The Colored Mascara
A very subtle way I like the add a pop of color is to use a colored mascara. I’ve been really into blue and maroon. I feel they make your eye color pop and is less harsh than a black or dark brown.
The Unconventional Highlight
For the most part, I gravitate toward a natural looking highlight, but every now and again, I want something that really catches attention. Colored highlighters may look intimidating, but when applied with a light hand, they can really make a cool impact.
The Nails
Nail polish is a really easy way to add color in your beauty routine when you are too afraid or just don’t want to add it to your face makeup. Usually I like to stick to nude or no polish at all, but when I want to add something extra in the spring, I tend to go for a light pink–it’s almost a neutral, but not, so it counts. I also like really light purples and blues as well.
