Paying attention to every runway show for a seasons’ trends can be extremely daunting. There are so many shows and so many trends, and if you aren’t a “fashion person,” it’s hard to tell what the underlying trend is in a runway show. To make it easy for you, I’ve chosen 4 of my favorite spring fashion trends from the runways and broke them down for you!
I said in last year’s spring trends post that I generally beat to my own drum. I see a trend and find the spin on it that works best for me. And I think that’s a good line of advice to give to you as well–if you see something that speaks to you on the runway, you don’t have to mimic it exactly. Be inspired by the runway and then transform the trend to best suit you. So let’s just jump into the 4 spring fashion trends you’ll see me sporting in 2019.
1 | bleached denim
Let’s kick it off with a denim trend–bleached denim to be exact. What I love about this is can be head to toe bleached denim or a denim dress or pants mixed with something else. It’s really versatile, which is always a plus in my opinion.
Some of the shows that did this that I really love are Isabel Marant. She featured tons of bleached denim in her show, but I really loved this head to toe denim look with a puff sleeve denim dress and matching knee high boots. She showed a few different washes of denim, but I really enjoyed this subtle bleached wash. La Vie by Rebecca Taylor did another head to toe look with a puff sleeve top paired with a lighter wash jean. You can also see a peek of a bow on the waistline. And finally Celine had these fabulous acid wash slouchy pants walk down the runway paired with a fur jacket and leather accents. I love how edgy this take on the trend is.
2 | bows
The next trend is just bows…on everything. I love bows; really, I love anything that adds just a bit of romance and femininity. And when working with trends like this I go in one of two ways–I either fully embrace it and go full romance or juxtapose it with something very masculine. But either way I’m obsessed.
Rebecca Taylor showed an ultra girly and feminine take on this–she had sundresses with pretty bows, but I was drawn to this floral suit situation with the bows beneath. Celine had a very sleek and sophisticated take on the bow trend with a sheer blouse and trousers–mixing the femininity of the bow and blouse fabric with the masculinity of the pants and boots. But my ultimate favorite take on the bow trend was from Marc Jacobs–I die. He did this ’80s short suit with a cropped tuxedo looking jacket in this fabulous lavender color. Then he plopped on a peach toned blouse with a giant bow on it. This outfit speaks to me on so many levels.
3 | head to toe beige
Color trends get me really excited, because they are so easy to tackle. It’s easy to look into your closet or thrift store or online search and keep and eye out for a single color. There are two that really caught my eye for spring 2019. The first being beige, wheat, etc.–whatever you choose to call it, we’re seeing head to toe beige everywhere. And I dig it.
Max Mara did a take on this head to toe beige situation with an almost safari looking beige suit with a beige midi skirt and matching jacket with rolled sleeves. They have a cool beige head scarf. You also see the beige trend in the Tibi show–and I always love Tibi. Their shows always give a relaxed business look that I adore. They showed a beige suit with kind of a flowy pant and long line blazer. And that’s something else we’re seeing for spring is more of a relaxed/slouchy pant and less of a structured and tapered leg. Christian Dior also had multiple head to toe beige looks that were beautiful. I particularly liked this beige ombre dress with matching cape. I love the gradual mixing of beige tones.
4 | pistachio, mint, sage, etc.
Spring 2019 is still going to focus on some fan favorite colors like powder blue and lavender, but I’m especially excited about the greens. We saw a variety of pistachio/sage/mint green hues all over the runways. And greens have been speaking to me recently.
Since we’re already talking about Tibi, Tibi did a midi dress in this pistachio color. While it’s a simple silhouette, the color really makes a statement. And they paired it with this oversized clutch in a baby blue color that I think is amazing. I love the statement of mixing one solid color with another solid color–it’s simple but it makes an impact. Christian Siriano also did a 2-piece head to toe green look that I think is really cool. And my favorite is from Peter Petrov. They did this head to toe green suit. Oh my gosh. I LOVE the slouchy pants with blazer and matching pistachio green booties. It’s so fabulous. And there’s just something I love about a spring pastel suit.
