If you’ve been here a while, you know how much I love a good anti-haul. We don’t need every new eye shadow palette, no matter how much Colourpop’s flawless marketing makes us think we do.
Skipping out on new launches was pretty easy for me in 2018. I was in a bit of a makeup rut, reaching for the same products over and over again. But guys…2019 has been bringing it! Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of products I think are stupid and would easily make an anti-haul list. But in the past 2 weeks alone, my creativity has been sparked and I want so many new launches.
But I know I don’t need them. Today I’m talking myself out of these 4 new eye shadow palettes. Maybe I can talk you out of them as well.
Jouer Tan Lines –
I like a lot of face products from Jouer, but their eye shadow palettes have not interested me. They always look a little boring, in my opinion. And the one that I have actually tried on my eyes was a miserable fail. So why in the heck do I want this new Tan Lines palette from their summer collection so bad?
Because it’s freaking gorgeous.
There’s no denying this is a beautiful palette. There’s a variety of neutral and summery shades. I’m a big fan of 9-pan palettes–not too big, not too small. I also really enjoy the mix of finishes in this palette. It looks like there are 4 mattes, 3 shimmers, and 2 luxe foil finish shadows.
But cover up the last 4 shades, and you have a very basic, neutral palette. And I have those colors. What I really want are those bright 4 shades on the right. They all would be beautiful all over the lid or mixed for a bright pastel situation.
Instead of spending $34 on a whole palette, when I really want 4 shades, I’m going to try to find these shadows in single pans. Because I do really want those shades.
Will be available 31 May, 2019 at jouercosmetics.com.
Nabla the Sunset Palette
Holy shit. This is one of the prettiest palettes I’ve ever seen, really. When I first saw these promotional photos on Trend Mood’s Instagram, I saved it and told myself I was getting it as soon as it dropped.
I was immediately drawn to the matte and shimmer teal shades and the bright, metallic fuchsia. And I really think I’d wear all of the shades in this palette. It retails for about $45 (I think), which isn’t too bad.
But after milling on it for a bit, I can’t help but ask myself, “Do you want this palette because you like these colors as eye shadows or because it’s the exact color palette you have planned for your house?”
And it is. The teal shade is what I’m thinking for kitchen cabinets and living room walls. The pink and yellow gold are accent colors I’ve been eyeing in velvet throw pillows. I’m a sucker for rich jewel tones. What can I say?
I can’t make any promises that I won’t be purchasing this one, but I’m really trying to be really real with myself.
This one is available now online at nablacosmetics.com.
Natasha Denona Sunrise
I hate how much I love Natasha Denona shadows, because they’re so expensive–unnecessarily so. But they are nice; I can’t deny that. And this Sunrise palette is so pretty.
I could complain everyday about warm eye shadow palettes, but the fact of the matter is: warm tones are easier to work with. They’re more flattering. And I really enjoy wearing warm oranges and pinks and browns.
I like the mixture of warm browns, yellows, berries, and the metallics are so beautiful. And while I can picture a lot of different looks from this palette, I really only want those yellows and a few of the metallics. Again, it’s one of those situations where I may be better off looking for single shadows in those colors, especially the yellows.
However, this Sunrise palette isn’t one of her $129 palettes; it retails for $65. That’s still a pricey pallette, but I think it’s better.
The Natasha Denona Sunrise palette will be available on 3 June and is available for pre-sale at natashadenona.com.
Huda Beauty Neon Obsessions
Ya’ll, I have been on a neon kick! I don’t know if it’s that summer is right around the corner or my general makeup preferences are changing drastically lately. And my collection is lacking neon shades that I wish it had. No matter the reason, these new neon mini palettes from Huda Beauty are calling to me.
I mean look at that packaging!
The orange and green palettes are intriguing me specifically. From the swatches, these look extremely pigmented and bright. The shimmers look truly beautiful.
Like to Jouer Tan Lines palette, the green palette I’ll probably skip out on. I’m interested in the two matte greens and the matte pink. I think I’d get more value by finding these in single shades. The orange palette, however, I think I’d use often.
But I’m not 100% on board with Huda Beauty as a brand. I’m not one for cancelling a brand, but Huda leaves me feeling icky sometimes.
I also think Colourpop will come out with a neon 9-pan palette soon. And I love their formula and would rather hold off for that!
These will retail for $29 and will be available online 30 May at shophudabeauty.com and on 6 June at Sephora.
Were you eyeing any of these new eye shadow palettes? Did I talk you out of any of them? (I barely talked myself out of them, truthfully.)
