I saw this on Youtube a couple of week’s ago and thought it was a fun topic to cover. So today we’re going to talk about the makeup products I’d buy right away if all my makeup disappeared.
Say all of my makeup disappeared or was stolen, etc., how would I go about that? I wouldn’t be able to go out and replenish my entire makeup collection at once. That’d be really expensive and a bit ridiculous. I’d probably want to be able to purchase all of the items at one location and for the least amount of money as possible. So I thought: Ulta. They have the drugstore and high end options, and generally have coupons available as well. I also could use any rewards points I’ve accumulated.
I thought really long and hard about these products. They aren’t necessarily my favorite and holy grail products, but they’ll suffice. These also aren’t intended to be products for a natural day time look, or no-makeup makeup essentials. I need these makeup products to take me from day to night and to any occasion I need them to. I also didn’t include any tools, sponges, or lash curlers in this. I kept it strictly makeup I’d need to repurchase.
1. Physicians Formula Spotlight Illuminating Primer
I talked about how much I love illuminating primers last week. They add a lit from within glow under makeup and make my skin look more alive when I choose to wear them on days without makeup as well. This one is a dupe for the Becca Backlight Priming Filter, so I’d pick this up on a whim instead of the Becca option.
2. Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation
I knew I’d have to pick up a foundation of some sort, and I went back and forth between this one from Makeup Revolution and the L’Oreal Pro-Glow foundations. I’d probably still pick that one up if this weren’t available at my local Ulta. This comes in 18 shades, and they say you can also use it for highlighting or contour by mixing shades. I’d just use it for foundation. The lightest shade, F1, works well enough for me. I will say,
The finish is dewy and can build to a medium-full coverage. But when sheered out with a beauty sponge (which is how I typically apply it), it’s on the lighter side of coverage. I can still see freckles and skin peek through, which I prefer. I wouldn’t recommend this for oily skin, because it can get a little oily looking and break up. But it works on my skin well.
3. Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer
This is the only high end item on this list, and probably the first thing I’d purchase. The Urban Decay Naked concealer is my favorite concealer of all time. It’s not too heavy and wears so nicely throughout the day. I don’t wear foundation or want a lot of coverage usually, so this concealer is light enough in coverage and color to wear on a bare face. I usually apply this with a beauty blender under my eyes, as an eye shadow primer, and to subtly highlight my face if I’m using a base product that’s a little too dark.
4. Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder
Even though my skin isn’t excessively oily, I still like to use setting powder to set my under eye and better mattify my face when I want it to be less glowy. The Maybelline Fit Me powder is my second favorite loose setting powder. My favorite is the Coty Air Spun, but I wouldn’t buy it first if all of my makeup were to disappear. The packaging is just a plastic lid that sits on top of the base, so it’s not good for travel. That’s why it wouldn’t be my first choice.
The Maybelline powder sets my makeup well and never looks cakey or heavy and is travel friendly.
5. E.L.F. Beautifully Bare Natural Glow Face Palette
If I’m only buying 10 products, I needed to find a few that were multi-purpose products. The Beautifully Bare face palette in Fresh & Flawless from E.L.F. seemed like a no brainer to me. It contains a highlighter, bronzer, and two blushes. The bronzer is a little on the warm side, so it isn’t the best for a sculpted contour. But I don’t tend to use contour anyway. Bronzer is good to give my skin a little color, especially since warm weather is finally here!
The blushes are beautiful and pigmented. One is a little more on the pink side and one is a little more apricot. For me, those are two good options that I can pair with any look. And the highlight isn’t too dramatic, but again, I don’t tend to use a blinding highlight on a regular basis, so it’s not a huge deal for me.
And honestly, you can’t beat the price of E.L.F. products. They’re such good quality for a small price.
6. Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Palette in ‘Rose in the Air’
And eye shadow palette was pretty easy for me to choose. I honestly don’t like a whole lot of drugstore shadows. The drugstore lacks in that department, but Wet ‘n Wild does a good eye shadow palette. The Rose in the Air Color Icon palette is perfect for me. There’s a cool and warm transition shade and then a lot of warm browns, pinks, and reds. Those are the colors I love and wear on a regular basis.
Something like this is great, as opposed to any single shadows, because I can use the more neutral shades for a really nice daytime look and then build it up with the darker shadows for night. This could take me from work to an event, and I wouldn’t have to use another product. You may have noticed I haven’t made any mention of eyeliner. I figured I could use a small angled brush in one of the darker brown shades as a liner. I like the softness of powder liners.
7. Essence Make Me Brow
My go-to brow product are these brow gel formulas with the little fibers to make my brows look fuller. My brows are decently thick and shaped well, so running a tinted gel keeps them in place and fills in any sparse areas I do have. I usually go for the Benefit Gimme Brow, but in a pinch, I’d pick up the Essence Make Me Brow. It’s not quite as good as the Benefit, but it doesn’t work pretty well. And it’s a fraction of the cost.
8. L’oreal Lash Paradise Mascara
I have a handful of high end mascaras I love, but I’m a drugstore girl at heart in this category. Since it was released, the L’Oreal Lash Paradise has been my favorite. It coats my lashes on the first go, leaving them long and voluminous. One swipe is good for a really basic no-makeup makeup look, but layering it a couple of times makes the effect even more dramatic.
It’s a little clumpy if you layer it, but I don’t mind that look in mascara. If you are a fan of Too Faced’s Better Than Sex or anything similar, I’d definitely pick this up the next time you’re at the drugstore. It’s so good.
9. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Wine w/ Everything-Creme’
There are so many lip products from the drugstore I love, and I had a really hard time choosing a lipstick. I knew I needed something a little more neutral and non drying. If it’s the only one I have for a while, certain matte products dry out my lips after consecutive use. The lipstick also had to perform for a decent amount of time, or re-apply well.
I chose the ‘Wine w/ Everything‘ from Revlon’s Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick line. It’s a muted burgundy, so it’s a little red, a little brown. Dabbed on lightly, it’s a sheer reddish wash of color, which is great for daytime looks when I don’t want too bold of a lip. When applied full on, though, it’s a bold color, which would be perfect for nights and events.
Revlon’s lipsticks are some of my favorite from the drugstore. The creme formula isn’t totally matte, so it’s comfortable, but it isn’t too glossy. I think the color would compliment a lot of makeup looks and outfits, and be appropriate all day.
10. Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray
I also mentioned loving setting sprays last week, so I’d not hesitate to pick one up in a rut. I like this one from Mario Badescu as kind of a toner before applying makeup or to refresh my face on no makeup days. This isn’t necessarily the best to use as a makeup setting spray. I don’t notice it makes my makeup last longer. What I love about it is that spraying it on my finished face meshes all of my powder products together and look flawless.
They have a few different scents and mixtures, but the rosewater version is my favorite.
