A couple of months ago I went over all of my favorite high end lip glosses of the moment. Today we’re going to take it to the drugstore and talk about the best drugstore lip glosses. On my blog, I don’t love saying products are “good for the price” unless I’m specifically talking about value. So none of these glosses are necessarily good for the price, they are good despite the price. So while I do have multiple high end favorites, these more affordable options are just as good in my opinion, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by any of them.
If you didn’t read my high end gloss post, I’ll briefly retell my gloss story here. I used to exclusively wear lipstick — matte lipstick. But these days I’m all about the glow, the gloss, the moisture. So I have found myself reaching for hydrating lip products as opposed to very mattifying options. Not to say I don’t still love those products, I do. But you know…sometimes you just need a gloss.
My Favorite Drugstore Lip Gloss Formulas
Maybelline Lifter Gloss*: This is definitely the gloss that prompted me to want to include a drugstore favorites post. I was introduced to these when I heard someone say they were similar to the Fenty Gloss Bomb* gloss, which I love. And I have to agree with that. The Lifter gloss* itself is formulated with hyaluronic acid and claims to give lips a fuller look with lasting hydration. It totally does. And I love how sleek the packaging is.
In comparison to the Fenty glosses, the Lifter gloss is a little thinner and less balmy; however, the textural difference doesn’t compromise the integrity of the product. It’s a glossy, wet shine that makes the lips look full and juicy. It’s kind of a vanilla scent, but once it’s on my lips, I experience some sort of creamy mint sensation. But I could be losing it. It’s a beautiful gloss, and I’ve used the shades Topaz* (alternative for Universal Glow*) and Moon* (alternative for Fu$$y*) and would like to pick up a few more.
L’Oreal Plump and Shine Lipstick*: Again, this is a good alternative for one of my higher end favorites, the SEPHORA Melting Lip Clicks*. The formula is quite thin and glossy. And while the color isn’t opaque, it does add a pleasant burst of color to the lips. One thing I love about these is the slight tingly sensation it leaves on the lips. It’s not painful, like a lip plumper, but you can tell there’s something in there that adds a cooling effect. And the packaging is sleek and high end looking, in my opinion.
My favorite shades are: Nectarine Plump*, Coconut Plump*, and Watermelon Plump*.
Neutrogena MoistureShine Lip Soother SPF 20*: Speaking of cooling, I think this gloss is vastly underrated. It’s one of my go-tos for a beach or summer bag. These Lip Soothers from Neutrogena are in a nostalgic squeeze tube component, and honestly are a little thick like an old school gloss. However, I don’t find them to be the least bit sticky or goopy. The consistency, while on the thicker side, is still slick and lightweight feeling. There is a definite cooling effect, but it’s not aggravating. The shine is that juicy, wet looking shine I like. Plus I love the addition of SPF, as lips are so often overlooked for sun protection.
Revlon Super Lustrous The Gloss*: I have two products from Revlon for this list. The first is The Gloss. I love this formula. Honestly, it gives you everything — nonsticky gloss, dewy shine, moisture, and intense color. I don’t find these to be sticky or uncomfortable in anyway.
My favorite shades are: Rosy Future*, Rose Quartz*, and Taupe Luster*.
Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick*: I had the same qualm in my high end lip gloss post about adding the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks* to the list. Technically these are bulleted glossy lipsticks. But the shine is so unique to a gloss product, that it almost seems wrong not to include it. I love these so much. the consistency is so silky smooth on the lips, and the shine is multi-dimensional and delicious. The color payoff is a plus if you’re looking for something pigmented and high shine.
My favorite shades are: Nude Illuminator* and Rum Raisin*.
