Not going to lie, it’s a little wild to say this next sentence. Today we’re going to be talking about one of my favorite makeup categories and going over all of the best high end lip gloss formulas I’m using lately. I went so long being an anti-gloss kind of makeup wearer. But it wasn’t just me, when I really started to get into makeup, everyone was all about a matte look. Matte eyes, matte face, matte lips. However, as I get older, I am forgoing that matte sentiment and moving toward anything naturally radiant — sometimes borderline overboard on the dew factor. But it is what is. And that includes all of the gloss.
There are so many formulas on my list to try, but today’s list encompasses my favorite high end lip gloss formulas. Some of the glosses on this list are shade specific, because I have only used one shade, but a lot of them are the overall formula across the board. Check back for a list of drugstore gloss favorites! And make sure to let me know what your favorite lip gloss formulas are in the comments!
My Favorite High End Lip Gloss Formulas
Fenty Gloss Bomb (Universal Glow)* – It wasn’t difficult at all to curate this list. I was able to immediately pull my favorites from the drawer (& purse), and the Fenty Gloss Bomb was one of the first I pulled. What I love about this formula is that it’s very balmy and hydrating. It’s a little thicker than a couple of the others on this list, but it isn’t sticky or goopy. It feels like a treatment for my lips while adding the most beautiful shine. While I have a few other shades on my list, I’ve only used Universal Glow, a rosy color with shimmer. What I enjoy about the colored version of this formula is how perfectly opaque the shade is. It’s just right. You’ll get added color but nothing that is too statement making, and it goes with any makeup look, really. And the it smells divine.
Floss My New Favorite Lip Gloss* – This was an Allure Beauty Box discovery, and a good one. The name was bold, but I think for good reason. Formulation wise, it’s very basic — no glitter, non-sticky, and it doesn’t do that goopy white situation some glosses can do after talking and eating. It’s very thin in consistency and kind of slidey (in a good way) but lasts a long time on the lips. When it comes to the shine factor, this is one of my absolute favorites. It leaves behind a wet, glass-like shine that I am obsessed with.
Tower 28 Lip Jelly* – This is the newest gloss to my collection, and I want to grab a few more shades. I won’t linger, because my thoughts on this are similar to everything else. The formula is quite thin, non-sticky, and very hydrating. And what I love most is the wet-like shine it gives. Can you tell I have a type?
Lancome Juicy Tube* – I used these back in the day, and then they discontinued them. But recently Lancome brought back their beloved Juicy Tube glosses — which are basically a 2000s girl’s dream. I can’t speak for any of the shimmery shades, but these glosses are that perfectly plumping and juicy glosses. They’re very shiny and reflective. I also like to dab the clear one on my cheek bones as a highlight on no makeup days. Personally, I think these can be a tiny bit goopy if you use too much, and they’re a little stickier than anything else on this list. But I really do enjoy these.
SEPHORA Melting Lip Click* – I bought this at the same time I bought the Marc Jacobs Enamored gloss stick, because I thought it’d be a good dupe. I don’t think that anymore, and I actually like the SEPHORA Lip Clicks better. Unlike the MJ stick*, these are super thin and slippy. The shine is similar to the Floss glosses in that it’s very wet looking. And I love the stick format. It makes it easy to apply and effortless on the go. The shade selection is also really nice, and they don’t add too much pigment to the lips. Again, that makes it really easy to apply on the go or without a mirror. The color doesn’t last very long, but the hydration does.
NARS Lip Gloss* – This is one of those glosses I think just works for everybody. The formula is a little more like a traditional gloss in that it’s a little thicker. It doesn’t feel sticky, but you definitely know you’re wearing product. The colors are quite pigmented but still have a jelly-like, sheer nature to them.
YSL Volupte Shine* – I contemplated adding these to the list, because to me they lean a little more like a glossy lipstick. But the shine I get from these is too good and different than a shine finish lipstick. The bullet nature makes it easy to apply on the go without any mess, and there is a ton of color pay off. More than anything else on this list. But the formula is so thin, slippy, and shiny. I absolutely love these.
5 Wishlist Glosses
Hourglass Unreal Volumizing Gloss* – If you read my $1000 Fantasy SEPHORA Cart post a few weeks ago, this was the only lip product mentioned. I’ve heard nothing but good things. And I haven’t tried a product from Hourglass I haven’t enjoyed. I particularly am interested in the shade Ignite, a peach with gold shimmer.
Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss* – This one seems to be in the camp of a tinted lip oil, which I do enjoy. However, this seems to have a little more color to it than a typical oil. The Wet Lip Oil Gloss from Kosas is described as a hybrid lip treatment/gloss formulated with peptides that hydrate and add slick, juicy color.
Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath Gloss* – I’ve not tried a lot from Charlotte Tilbury, but there is major appeal with every product. I think the term “Lip Bath” is the most appealing part of this product to me. It sounds like it’d be wet looking, lightweight, and super shiny — just as I’d like it to be.
Buxom Plumping Lip Gloss* – Everyone talks about these plumping glosses from Buxom, and I have never tried one! Celeste is the shade I really want to get my hands on, which is another shimmery peach color.
RÓEN Kiss My … Liquid Lip Balm* – RÓEN is a newer brand to me. I just recently purchased the 11:11 eye shadow palette in the past few months. And I love how cool the branding, formula, concept is. I’ve had this liquid lip on my Loves List for a while. It’s supposed to give you the high shine of a gloss with the nourishing effect of a balm — which sounds right up my alley. While there are only 3 colors, they all seem beautiful to me (a plum, a neutral rose, a pinky beige.)
