Way back when, Colourpop collaborated with Kathleen Lights to create a super shock shadow quad. And in this quad, a shade named Telepathy was made. And this is when my love affair with this odd, golden green, chartreuse color began. Since then, I’ve seen it start to pop up in more and more palettes. It’s even begun to slowly creep and replace a dark green, smokey eye. Or maybe it’s just because I’m looking out for it that I’m noticing it more. In any regard, today we’re talking about this trendy green eye shadow I can’t stop wearing.
A brief description –
I’m come to enjoy various varieties of this trendy green eye shadow; however, there a few constant descriptions I can give:
- A mix of green, yellow, gold color (honestly, if you can’t explain it, the better it is), can be light or dark in tone
- MUST be shimmery/metallic (I don’t make the rules — except I did this time)
Current favorites in my collection –
from the bottom, to the top:
- Telepathy – warm-toned, metallic chartreuse gold *discontinued*
- Mary Jane* – metallic chartreuse (from Just My Luck)
I love how punchy this color is. While it’s a little lighter and brighter than the others, it still fits into that kind of grungy metallic green trend and definitely adds a major pop when paired with other colors. - Olive U* – metallic olive green (from Just My Luck)
Less gold, more olive, but metallic goodness. - Electric – duo-chrome lime gold
- Dwollahs – metallic golden olive
- Tea Garden* – duo-chrome red with green flip
Sometimes it’s red, sometimes it’s green. But it’s always amazing.
How I like to wear it –
Something I love about this golden, olive green is that it’s punchy without being over the top. So even if you’re someone who is a little afraid of bright color on the eyes can make this work in a wearable way.
In the photo on the top left (of yours truly), I applied Electric from ABH Subculture — that beautiful lime gold– all over the lid, smudged a little brown shadow under the bottom lashes, and finished with a wing. It’s so simple but impactful.
I also love wearing this trendy eye shadow color all over the lid in the form of a smokey eye. Not all smokey eyes have to be dark and heavy. A nice olive tone smudged all over the lid, into the crease, and beneath the eye can be a beautiful grungy look without being overpowering.
I also love to use a pop of this green on the inner corner as a highlight, as a liner, or packed on beneath the lower lashes for a somewhat unexpected pop of color.
Color combinations –
While this is a standout color to wear alone, it’s also one that plays well with others, in my opinion. Some of my favorite colors to wear this type of green with are:
- Maroon/plum – While red and purple, they both work in the same way. This is where I love to add a pop of this green on the inner corner.
- Pink – For this, I love putting the green all over the lid with a pretty pop of pink in the center, or pair the green with a juicy pink lip.
- Blue – Blues cool this down a little bit, since they tend to be warmer in tone.
- Browns – There’s just something about this kind of green and a good chocolate brown.
