One thing I love about fashion is that it’s always changing. I’m a little experimental. When a hot new trend shows up, I’m all about trying it. Sometimes it’s a home run–I still haven’t let go of my skinny jeans. But sometimes those trends just don’t work out for me. Either it doesn’t look good on my body shape, or it doesn’t fit into my lifestyle. Whatever the reason, there are some trends I love to see on other people but refrain from wearing them myself.

Dresses Over Pants
I’ve been irrationally disappointed this is not the 1990s. And while I have a self-diagnosed ’90s mom aesthetic, this is one trend I just quite get. I don’t know if I poorly choose the pant/dress combo, but I always feel heavy and bulky ridiculous. I’ve researched and researched how to effortlessly pull off this look, but I’m sad to say I’ve not mastered it.
I will say, I’m determined to make this trend work for me. But we’re not there yet.
Jumpsuits
I can’t count how many jumpsuits I’ve purchased and then given away after one wear. I love seeing photos of jumpsuits. They look sexy but casual. When I wear them, though, I feel like a 5’4″ baby. It feels like I’m wearing a baby’s onesie.
For me, most of my height is in my leg; my torso isn’t very long. So a lot of the jumpsuits I try aren’t proportioned correctly, and I end up having a wedgie the whole time. Not a good look.
I know I don’t have to get into the bathroom situation, because anyone who wears jumpsuits knows what it’s like when you have to pee. Also not the best look.
Skirts … Not all of them, but skirts
I love a good mini skirt, a good maxi, a skort. But there are 3 particular styles I try to like on myself but don’t.
- Pleated Midi Skirts: These are beautiful to me. You see them on Pinterest all of the time, and the girls look fabulous. I bought one for Christmas last year, and it was nice. But I only wore it then. I don’t know if they’re a little too feminine for my general style, but I never feel like I have any tops to pair with them.
- Heavily Patterned Skirts: You know the skirts, the precious and quirky prints. Something I’ve learned about myself in the past year or so is that I don’t particularly like heavy patterns. I like animal print from time to time and stripes, light florals and the occasional small, quirky fruit pattern. But on a skirt? It’s so large scale, and just don’t work on me.
- Bubble Skirts: This is another one I always see on Pinterest and save, but when I try to execute the style myself, it flops. Again, maybe it’s a style that’s a little more feminine than what I prefer, but I tend to leave these hanging without paying much attention to them.
