When I saw photos of the Flights of Fancy collection from Wet ‘n Wild, I knew I’d be picking a few things up from the launch. You may or may not know this about me, but Wet ‘n Wild is one of my favorite brands. The quality you get for the inexpensive price tag is unbeatable in my opinion. I’ve been playing with the products, so I thought it time to review them. *Spoiler* It’s good.
Wet ‘n Wild just launched a brightly hued collection inspired by the exotic colors of two hummingbird varieties–the Allen’s and Costa hummingbirds. To celebrate the launch, Wet ‘n Wild is donating $10,000 to the Los Angeles Audubon Society in effort to restore the habitats of Allen’s hummingbirds.
The collection includes 3 baked blushes, 3 eye shadow quads, 1 lip scrub, 1 primer water, 2 eye liners, and 4 lip glosses for $34.99. In addition to the collection box, there is also a nail polish collection, 1 additional lip scrub, a Pro Line blush brush, 1 lip gloss, and 1 additional eye liner. All items are available individually and range in price from $2.99-$9.99.
I purchased two of the eye shadow quads, two lip glosses, and two of the baked blushes. I’ve used Wet ‘n Wild liquid liners previously, and I thought I purchased one of them, but I must not have. I find the limited edition liners are hit or miss. I loved the pastel liners they came out with a few seasons ago, but hated the liners featured in the recent Midnight Mermaid collection. So I may have to pick one or two of them up later.
The colors are more than appropriate for spring time. Everything is bright and shimmery and fresh. Keep reading for reviews of the individual products I purchased.
COLOR ICON BAKED BLUSH | $4.99
The two shades I picked up were Don’t Flutter Yourself (left swatch), a coral pink, and Hummingbird Hype (right swatch), a peachy gold. These are very shimmery blushes, so if you are a matte blush fan, you will not like these. I, however, love them. These apply very beautifully to the cheeks. They’re soft and very pigmented, so you don’t need to go wild when picking up with your brush. And they blend beautifully. They don’t have any obvious glitter, but like I said, if you don’t like a glowy blush, you won’t enjoy these.
I didn’t purchase Dare to Soar. I generally go for natural flush toned blushes, so I thought this would be a little too intense on my super fair skin. I think this would look amazing you had medium to deep skin.
My favorite of the two I purchased is Don’t Flutter Yourself. It’s a great pink for my skin and matches most of the eye looks I’ve been applying for the season. But I also love Hummingbird Hype. It’s really nice when I want to wear a poppy or orange colored lip, because it’s not as pink as the others.
NOT PICTURED: Dare to Soar, a fuchsia toned berry.
COLOR ICON EYE SHADOW QUAD | $2.99
If you haven’t used Wet ‘n Wild eye shadows before, what are you doing? They are some of the only drugstore eye shadows I own or use. The mattes are powdery but blendable. I don’t mind a powdering shadow as long as I get some color payoff and they’re easy to work with. The shimmers generally are subtle and lightweight. They don’t immediately give you a high metallic finish, but most of them can be built up to something more intense. They aren’t overly pigmented, so they’re very easy to use, especially for everyday.
STOP RUFFLING MY FEATHERS
This is a great every day option when you want something subtle but still making an impact. The lid shade in this quad is kind of a duo chrome and is really pretty. I love this transition shade, and the copper crease shade is great. The downfall is in this quad for me is the brow bone highlight. It watched beautifully, but it didn’t perform the same way on the eyes. It’s so subtle and almost nonexistent on my eye. I finally got it show up a little better by using Mac Fix Plus, but it wasn’t my favorite shade.
HASTA LA COSTA BABY
Hasta La Costa Baby was the quad I was most excited for, but ended up not being my favorite. The colors are beautiful. The transition is a camel brown, and I think it’s beautiful in the crease. The brow bone highlight was a lot easier to blend than the other highlight shade, and I liked it a lot. The turquoise color was very pretty and pigmented. It’s nice under the lower lash line or all over the lid. However the purple shade was kind of a fail for me. It really doesn’t have a lot of pigmentation, and it almost looked more gray on me than purple.

COLOR ICON LIP GLOSS | $3.99
I’m typically not a gloss girl, but recently I’ve been reaching for them more and more. Maybe spring is making me crave a juicy, plump lip, but these glosses have been in arms reach for the past few weeks. I selected Fly Gal (top swatch), a true baby pink, and Love Bird Affair (bottom swatch), a bright red.
I really appreciate this formula. They’re very shiny and glossy but not sticky. That’s what I hate about glosses, the sticky feeling, but these are really comfortable on the lips. These are beautiful on their own and can be worn sheer with one coat or as a more opaque lip color when built up.
I will say I noticed a little feathering with the Love Bird Affair shade, but that could have been the lip pencil I was wearing beneath it. So I’ll have to try that one again. How I really love to wear that shade is sheered out all over the lip for a fresh poppy lip. Fly gal is a true baby pink, and if you’ve read my recent lip post, you’ll know I’ve been very much into a pink pout.
NOT PICTURED: Featherless (peachy nude), Pout of Paradise (orange), Shut The Pluck Up (berry)
I hope this review was helpful if you were thinking about picking up anything from this collection. To reiterate: the eye shadow quads are lightweight and buildable, and they’d be great for every day. The lip glosses aren’t sticky, are very comfortable and pigmented. And The baked blushes are shimmery and very pigmented. If you like matte blushes, you won’t like these. I recommend everything I spoke about today. Even if you end up not liking something, nothing in the collection is expensive, so I definitely think you should give it a try.
