Considering my town looks like we’re inside of a snow globe that just got shaken up real good, I’m going to call that we have officially entered winter. We’ve had it pretty easy with mildly cold weather and no snow, but I’m afraid it’s here. While I loathe winter for the snow and ice, I love it for the fashion. I love bundling up and being cozy, so I rounded up a few winter pieces I’m loving at the moment for the snowy weather (and they’re all under $100).
Plaid Blanket Scarf: Honestly I’m fairly basic in terms of winter accessorizing. I’m mainly concerned with being warm, but I also like making sure my accessories are fairly neutral and will match any coat or jacket I’m wearing. I love a good, classic, plaid blanket scarf. They do the job well–they keep me warm and stylish. I like this old-school woodland green/yellow/red color palette, but this is easily adjusted to anyone’s style.
Faux Fur Stole: You’re going to notice a fur trend in this post. I’m loving it. These are good to dress up any basic coat, and will also provide added warmth, and a ton of added flare. The stoles from Sole Society look really expensive, but are pretty moderately priced, and they come in a few colors like this woodland green and oxblood.
Fur Vest: On days that aren’t super cold, or when you’ll be spending your time indoors, I love the look of a fur vest over top of turtleneck sweaters. They are so chic and, again, will keep you warm. What I enjoy most about this vest is the black and grey color scheme. It’s going to work with almost anything, and there’s a faint fade to tan, which will make mixing blacks and browns tremendously easy.
Navy Patch: Last year, camel colored coats were all the rage, because they look effortlessly cool with jeans, sweaters, dresses, anything. While I still love a good camel classic, navy is the new kid in town for 2017. Zara is giving a nod to a Coach design with this long line navy coat. The gold buttons and notched lapels mixed with the navy color makes this a really timeless look, but the graphic patches add a fun twist to something otherwise traditional. I adore it.
Leopard Print: I’m newly into animal print, and I wrote a piece a while back about how I like to wear it. I’d love to add this to the mix. It’s such a fun pop of print, but the neutrality of it makes it easy to mix with other colors or patte
rns and is appropriate for any style of dress. It’s a little different than a traditional leopard print with its lighter color scheme.
Parka: When it’s a warmer winter day, I rock my fun coats, but honestly, I’m usually in my parka. I get cold! I wear a lot of neutrals, so I love a good army green. I have one already that looks a little more formal in comparison to this coat, but I like the casual look every now and again. This coat also comes in a slate gray and black, if green isn’t quite your thing.
Fur: I found a pink fur coat at a secondhand shop a few months ago, and I’ve been waiting impatiently for the weather to get cold enough so I can wear it! And since finding that, I’ve been obsessing over them. They’re so fluffy and warm, and they definitely make a statement.
Leather Details: Everything I’ve talked about thus far is either really dramatic or fairly casual, and what I love about this coat is it’s kind of subtle but still has some complexity. The design is really subdued and understated, but the bold hardware and leather accents add something special.
Metallic Puffer: Puffer coats are kind of a no brainer for winter. I remember being a kid and hating when my parents made me put a puffer coat on, but as an adult, they’re warm…really warm, and they’re on the luxurious side when you think about it. It’s full of down feathers and high tech insulation. That sounds like a win to me. Vivienne Westwood recently sent a puffer coat down the runway that caught my eye because it was metallic. I don’t know why, but that’s just so cool to me.
