I wasn’t sure what I wanted to post today, and I remembered watching the Would You Rather makeup tag Kelly Gooch created over on Youtube a week or so ago and though it’d be fun to do! These questions were really hard!
#1 Would you rather…
Have a bad base or bad eye makeup?
Obviously, I’d rather have neither. I’d rather have good face and eye makeup. But if I had to choose one, I’d choose to have bad eye makeup.
I can go without eye makeup and be fine, but I generally feel more confident when my base is nice. Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I like to make sure my face has been prepped with skincare. Not to mention, I hate when my foundation/base products break up and start to look really bad on the skin. So I’d rather have a good base than perfect eye shadow. Also I feel like half the time my eye shadow could look better anyway!
#2 Would you rather…
Wear a neutral eye for the rest of your life or a neutral lip?
I’ve been getting into color recently, especially on my eyes. So this one is kind of hard! But I would rather wear a neutral eye for the rest of my life. I change my lip products depending on my mood, and a red lip is what makes me feel most confident and bad ass.
Also, I’d consider myself a neutral eye girl at heart.
#3 Would you rather…
Wear the wrong foundation shade or no foundation at all?
This one was easy! I’d rather wear no foundation at all.
I find it extremely difficult to find a perfect foundation match for me, because I’m so fair. So I initially thought I’d say I’d rather wear the wrong foundation shade because it’s quite easy to alter the look of it. But then I really…really started thinking about it, and I’d rather wear no foundation.
More and more I’ve been forgoing foundation and opting to conceal the problem areas instead. One, it makes my face feel like it can breathe. Two, my complexion is pretty good. I don’t break out often, and I usually don’t mind if you can see minor blemishes, skin, and imperfections. I prefer a sheer finish anyway.
#4 Would you rather…
Give up primer or setting spray?
I really enjoy my primers, and I really enjoy my setting sprays. I use setting sprays to melt all of my powder products together to look seamless and glowing. I’ve been raving about the L’Oreal Lumi Shake + Glow mist. And I typically use luminous primers to add a healthy glow. But I think I’d rather give up primer.
I don’t think is considered cheating, but I feel I can get the effect I want from a primer from my skincare and other luminous products. For example, I can use a really hydrating moisturizer prior to makeup application to achieve plump and healthy skin and a liquid highlight like the Algenist Luminizing Drops to get the glow.
#5 Would you rather…
Not wear makeup for a year or not drink coffee for a year?
This is the hardest question in this tag for me. Thanks, Kelly. I love coffee — and more than the caffeine and the taste of coffee, I love the ritual of drinking coffee. It’s what I look forward to in the morning, cuddled up, drinking my cup of coffee. But I also love makeup more for just looking pretty.
I like the creativity and the act of putting on makeup. It’s something I do when I’m bored, even if I’m not going anywhere. It’s fun to me. Some people paint, I play with makeup. It makes me excited. So I think I’d not drink coffee for a year. And if it’s allowed, I’ll just try to get my caffeine fix from tea or something.
#6 Would you rather…
Have only 60 seconds to do your daily makeup or have to do a full-glam, 1 hour transformation every time you do your makeup?
I’d rather to an hour long, glam transformation instead of doing 60 second makeup. There are days where 60 second works just fine, but there are other days when I want to slow down, take my time, and create something long-lasting and intricate. And I don’t want to give that up.
Not to mention, you can’t really get a lot done in 60 seconds. I feel like at the point, I’d rather just not worry about it. And like I said in the previous question, I like sitting down and applying makeup. I enjoy the process — especially when I’m not in a rush. A full hour would give me plenty of time!
#7 Would you rather…
Only use mattes or only use shimmers?
Kelly said she was meaning all products. So if you go the shimmer route, you’re doing dewy foundation, all shimmer eye shadow, glossy or metallic lips, etc. I’m going to go with shimmers.
A few years ago, I’d easily have said matte. But I like how natural a glowy makeup look makes you appear. I’ve done eye looks with all shimmer shades, and it can look really pretty. Because remember, there’s a difference between shimmer and glitter. And not all shimmer is frosty.
#8 Would you rather…
Not do makeup for a year or never watch another Youtube video ever again?
Ok…so I’m back and forth. Because I could go makeup free for a year, but Youtube makes me want to buy beauty products. And why buy them if I can’t wear it. On the other hand, I watch more than beauty videos on Youtube. So I’m going to not do makeup for a year.
I almost use Youtube as a search engine. I also do workouts off Youtube and listen to music on Youtube.
#9 One has to go…
Highlight, bronzer, or blush.
Would you rather dismiss highlight, bronzer, or blush … I think I’m going to go with getting rid of bronzer.
I love blush. I don’t feel like my makeup is complete until I’ve added a little (a lot) of blush. And I love being a bronze goddess, but since I’m so fair, darker tan blushes will work as a bronzing type of product on me skin. And I like how highlight wakens up your entire face and makes you look so healthy.
